There's some good looking plans to get some cycles trails on the old Newbold Comyn Golf course, fair few objections - lets get some support rolling in.

Yes I did this the other day.
It's a really fantastic opportunity for the area to promote physical and mental health.
Would be a great space for families to hang out and have lots of fun.
Unfortunately there are quite a few anti bike voices knocking about. I joined a dog-based Facebook page last night and set about challenging the sensationalist nonsense they were spouting in order to drum up more opposition.
They were telling people that the plans would take up the whole park with bike trails and dogs would be banned etc. Absolute rubbish.
The trails would be a very small percentage of what is a very large area.
One lady, who had said all this actually posted up screenshots of her reply from the council clearly stating that her claims were nonsense.
She doesn't even bother to read the reply to herself, never mind the actual plans.
When I went to look at the page again this morning, expecting a load of flak for my incredibly restrained and reasoned points, I'd been kicked off the group and banned! 😂
I'm a dog walker in the park too so it's all a bit wrong that they basically ban anyone with a slightly different view. 👎
Yes, it's really a positive thing for the area and something to visit for those surrounding the area.

Please take a few minutes to register in support 👍

I think the same person is doing exactly the same on Nextdoor. She doesn't engage with any attempt to show that she has not understood the plans, just keeps stirring it up. Very frustrating.
I went back to Nextdoor to post this but the whole discussion has been removed!
The folk who’ve drawn up the plans for Newbold Comyn cycling trails are the same ones who worked with Sheffield City Council to implement the shared trails at Parkwood, whilst maintaining, even enhancing the nature reserves and multi usage across the site. This video gives a great overview of what they've achieved - https://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2020-10-15/parklife-parkwood-springs-the-sheffield-green-space-dubbed-the-hyde-park-of-the-north
As above, please support if you can.

I didn't know that. That's fantastic 😊
@onewheelgood seems to be velosolutions doing the plans for Newbold and the ones I've seen for Parkwood weren't done by them? Velo should do some great trails though given who runs the uk arm.
My statement was a cut and paste from a pack issued by British Cycling and the local cycling clubs - I didn't fact-check it.
The plans in the PP application are produced by Bike Track https://bike-track.com/ who do seem to have built the Parkwood trails.
Velosolutions do some great stuff too, so either's a win, and should be a proper rider's place vs. a watered-down council thing.

Sounds perfect to me 😉
Now the golf course has gone can't you ride where you want anyway?
Surprised they aren't saying bikes should be confined to the champion hills track

Plenty of people have been saying that.
I've been messaging the main lady that is organising opposition for this to ask why she kicked me out of her Facebook group.
She has a lot of history campaigning for dog walkers rights and she believes that the council is intent on banning dogs from the park completely.
This isn't true, but it's the essence of what she is staging her 'anti' campaign from.
She has now suggested that I am passive aggressive and have been trolling her page.
I am neither.
I mean, that's the standard accusation these days isn't it if anyone disagrees with what you say on the internet? 🙄
You just cant talk to someone that gets that militant about their rights even when cyclists and dog walkers have existed side-by side in the area without issue. I regularly belt around the park on my bike alone, with friends and now my young family. Never had issues. I think an element of it will be "why aren't you spending money on resources for dog walkers?".
We had a letter in the local paper last week from a bloke putting out the same misinformation in order to garner support for the anti-camp.
I wrote a reply which has gotten published this week so that's good.

Nice letter @kayak23. It's certainly good that the paper printed yours and Martin's replies, both of which were calm and well reasoned. Thanks!
Good to see you're one of at least 3 that has had a 'pro' letter published. I'm a few miles up A46 from you but have responded to the consultation.
Excellent. Cheers @bails
Everyone else, you don't have to be local to support this, you just need to have 5 minutes spare.
It's cycling provision. We all like cycling right?
We need to change the tide and get cycling catered for better all over the country.
If you have something similar to what this could be, perhaps Sheffield or Leeds-style facilities, drop us a comment of support please and say how good they've been for your city.
Would be much appreciated. 👊
A letter by Martin.
