Washhand basin in ensuite is dripping from base. It's 12 yrs old and porcelain style, with a plunger plug ? in a bonded in metal surround. Pretty standard. It appears to be leaking through the bond between the basin and the metal plug surround. How do I fix it ?

Loosen off, clean up the joints, smear on some Plumber's Mait, tighten (taking care not to over-tighten.
