Lying in bed unable to sleep I whip out the iPad and launch the consistently wonderful Google Earth.
For some reason I had an idea of checking out a few USAF bases...
3 Locations.
A nice varied bunch on the tarmac here:

Pretty interesting stuff scattered around the rest of the field:

Love this patio:

Third location, the last shot should give this one away:

Awesome.

The birds eye view makes me want to play the old desert/jungle strike games!

The trouble with Google Earth is that it is like Wikipedia. You dive in get diverted down one rabbithole after another and suddenly 2 hrs have gone by.

Are the first ones NASA’s Dryden Test Centre? The last few are obviously Nellis😎

Yup, a combo of there and Edwards. And spot on with Nellis too.

Is that a load of Typhoons and Tornados at Nellis?

Yes. Good spot.

Edit: Ooops, Actually remembered that the B2 patio is actually at Dryden/Edwards

Great screenshots there! Being outdoors all day, and on the edge of Salisbury Plain, there’s always stuff flying around, although there was a lot of fast jet activity earlier this year, and I couldn’t see any of them! It’s not unusual to have B-52’s flying over to and from Fairford, but I haven’t seen any B-2’s so far. There was a Provost flew over on Friday, and a pair of trainers from the Empire Flying School.
Quite a bit of helicopter activity as well, Merlin, Wildcat, Chinook and Apache, unsurprising considering where work is on the edge of Westbury.
There’s the occasional C-130 from Brize, and C-17 and A-400’s as well.
Not as good locally as when RAF Lyneham was open, sadly.

You're not too far from me @countzero, I'm south of Warminster and we get aircraft buzzing over us daily. The FAA at Yeovilton transit past us on their way to and from the Plain, Boscombe Down isn't too far away and the rotary wing squadron like the airspace above my house.

Nothing is as good as when Lyneham was open! 😒

@Beaker, you're not far from me in the Nadder Valley then.

Nellis shots were probably taken during Red Flag - there were three this year, one in July/August.

Great pics

Love to have the room for a couple of SRBs laying around like you never know when they could come in useful 👍

How lazy? I sit in the garden and about 300 planes a day go over at about 2000 feet. That’s half of LHRs daily allowance. The rest either go straight on or turn left. And yes I can read the tail number

Went to Miramar to the museum when I was last in San Diego. Top Gun isn’t there anymore. And the museum is in the base, so entry is a little convoluted. Of course I got locked in after closing. That was more interesting.

I see your imperial western plastic junk and raise you a whole pile of titanium:

More titanium, parked on a roof.
