I need a bigger lawnmower. Local dealer does Stiga and Mountfield (B&S electric start v Honda engines).

Looking at 19 and 21" models

Any experience out there?

Cheers

Never heard of Stiga. I use mowers regularly!

Mountfield can be OK but a bit bottom end. Honda engines are good but ditch electric start. It's heavy and expensive. Cord start is good enough.

Make sure you get a decent roller at the rear NOT four wheels, one at each corner.

Best for regular use are Honda or Hayter. I have a Hayter 23"  It's nearly 20 years old and will last as long again. Nice Briggs & Stratton engine.

Stigma lawnmowers are great. They particularly specialise in mulching mowers but are great quality and use Briggs and Stratton engines (or at least did when I bought mine).

Stiga are more well known for their front mounted ride on mowers bendy in the middle. Mighty fine mowers they are too, used commercially quite a lot.  Not sure on the smaller ones.  search ebay and you will see what I mean

I'd never heard of them either until I needed some parts recently for my ancient Mountfield, which led to the discovery that Mountfield is now just a sub-brand of Stiga.

And there’s me thinking Stiga is owned by Mountfield and not the other way round :0)

Stiga do good little mulching mowers albeit I replaced mine this season with a John Deere as it had a bigger more powerful engine (B+S)

New style Hayters are hateful unless you have a bowling green you cut weekly in the dry

Viking are great for a season (or till you need parts and then useless)

John Deere are expensive but imho all round great machines

Hondas a re also great albeit tend to rust out eventually

Weibang are suppose to be great albeit parts might be fun to source if your local dealer isn’t a dealer

Yep, I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. I was plumping for an Atco roller self propelled one, which is also a Stiga, just a different colour. They're made in China, if that makes any difference to you? The Atco ones do come with a Honda engine option, the Stiga's didn't, IIRC.

Honda's good, I'll have a look at yours, thanks for the stealth heads up! 😉
