After trying most stuff we ended up with a metal spike one from ebay on the recommendation of a green keeper

Another vote for the spike ones. I found that it could distribute the water over a much larger area with one, so I could water the entire flower bed without having to move it. Probably the cheapest, and most robust too.

The impulse ones are good but you need really high pressure for them to work properly, mine just goes round but wont turn back as the stream of water hitting the vane isnt powerfull enough. Suppose it would be fine on a massive lawn where it only had to spin 360deg rather than oscillate.

Just bought 5 of the cheapest oscillating ones from screwfix. Hoping that a single tap is man enough to run them all at once.

I've taken to using these

They are pretty robust, although if you leave them out in the sun the UV makes the plastic go brittle quite qucikly, keep them in the shade when not in use and they last ages.

The moving ones always seem to jam up with stuff eventually.

Got myself a gardena Oscillating sprinkler comes with a filter inlet and you can take out the opposite end to flush it out and in the end there is a poker to clear the nozzles too.

I can confirm that an average garden tap won't drive 5x sprinklers, now looking at pumps!

Just wanted to bump to say thanks for recommendation of an impulse sprinkler. Picked one up from Screwfix off the back of this thread and it's fantastic; clever, but simple, bit of design and no plastic. And £8!

Now I've bought one it's inevitable a hosepipe ban will come into force.

love the bump sprinkler but they only of use for the larger garden, the Lidl one I got was watering the fence/greenhouse more than the lawn (my brother was very happy to accept it). I got a cheap and cheerful one like the hozelock footflaps has posted but do like the look of this one

Got a couple of spike ones from homebase. Qualcasti think. Still working well after about 6 years. Can run 2 at a time but that just halves the radius of each one so not worth it.
