So Laura Kenny has retired, could sense it was coming, nothing left to prove

Was obviously coming after the comments from GB Cycling last month.

What a record and legacy though.

Can you imagine rocking up at the local BMX track for a tiny tots balance bike race and recognising the parents of the kid next to yours?

She's just being interviewed on Five Live. Sounds like she's had a tough time of it with a series of miscarriages and an ectopic pregnency. As well as the physical toll that takes, it very much changes your priorities

And no one can, or should, blame her for that. As has already been said, she has zero to prove to anyone.

Amazing legacy - i'm guessing we'll be seeing her in the commentary box pretty soon.

I wasn't aware she was still competing, but kudos to an absolute star of British sport (not just cycling). Always loved her attitude and positivity.

I don't have time to check the exact stats, but I love how her and Jason (probably) have more cycling gold medals between them than the majority of countries do.

Yes it'd be awesome to see her doing TV coverage, if she's interested in going that way.

I guess there comes a time when simply run out of space for all your medals and trophies.

Dame Laura - you have been an inspiration to many young girls and fully grown women such as myself.
As she was saying in the news, athletes are often seen as robots and not human beings. It's a tough world and very hard work to get to the top, she knew it was time to stop.
I wish her all the luck in her future, but for now she wants to spend time with her young family.
I'll miss cheering you on Laura.

Her record is just outstanding. The UK's most successful women's Olympic athlete. Not just in cycling, but every sport, plus also 7 time world champion and 14! times European champion, and road race champion.

Nothing left to prove.

Imaging rocking up to the parents 100m race on sports day and the 100m Olympic champion decides to have a jog...

There’s absolutely nothing I can add to what everyone else has said, an astonishing athlete, who has exemplified the expression ‘grace under pressure’. I wish her the very best for the future.

An amazing career.

Interesting to see what happens to them both from here. Two incredibly talented people who have been in the public eye, got a bag full of medals and a knighthood and damehood, but I can't imagine have earned that much cash along the way comparatively in comparison to a lot of high profile sports people. One or both of them will need a second career beyond being rolled out for a few days every four years and Olympic Games pundits.

Ah, just seen that Jason is now a sprint coach, although Laura has said that's not for her.

Yep, they chose the wrong sport/path if money was the motivation but it clearly wasn't.  Seems wrong that the technically most successful has not got decent monetary reward alongside everything else.

Quick Google suggests she's worth about £3.5million.
Deserves every penny for the hard graft.
