Just discovered this band by googling "must have CDs for audiophiles."

Not that I'm an audiophile - I just wanted some suggestions.

In the list was American Dream which I listened to and liked. I've now listened to older stuff and predictably have fallen in love with the track All Our Friends.

Wow. Wave after contrasting wave of euphoria and self pity.

An absolute classic.

Just needed to tell somebody!

Ta.

I discovered them late after James Murphy produced Reflektor for Arcade Fire.  They're probably my favourite band at for the past few years.

Got tickets for the Manchester Apollo, saw them at the Warehouse project great band absolutely appalling venue.

All my Friends is my favorite song of this century.

I'm a bit weird, I like to take my time I've not really listened to American Deams though I love the singles from it.

Hmm, I'm expecting a lot of clueless (ie. disagreeing) replies, based on this ere thread what I started when the comeback single came out (original post is about half way down the thread, marvellously)

But yeah, they're brilliant. Obviously not as good as they were before they got popular 😀

I'm losing my edge.

Great band but American Dreams a disappointment for me too.

there are some great covers of  All My Friends by John Cale and another by Franz Ferdinand that were released instead of remixes. Not on Spotify but worth tracking down.

I bloody love LCD. We celebrated my 40th by going down to that there London and watching them at Hyde Park with Soulwax. That was a bit of a messy old weekend 😀

first and second albums are the best. a bit filthier.  Utterly brilliant band. sound of silver is my fave, plus I love the meaning

"My dad used to say, 'Having a child is a permanent silver medal,' meaning that the best you can ever do for the rest of your life is second place. Because you just made something that for your lifetime has to be first place. I'm aware that this is our second record, and I think it's better than the first."

Don't forget 45:33  , done for Nike I think. fantastic, especially the first 30 mins

Losing My Edge is the one for me. Not massively into American Dreams yet, but not listened to it much.

I was handed that (the first) album by our local independent record store owner saying 'You should buy this'. Then he vanished like the shop keeper in Mr Ben

Agree that 'American Dream' isn't them at their best BUT it does have one stand-out track for me - 'How Do You Sleep'.

One of the top ten gigs I ever went to was LCD ss with Soulwax at the astoria.

Front row balcony - yeeha.

We like daft punk is playing at my house at the moment due to Li'l J's daft punk obsession.

🙂

As the man himself would say, "I was there".

Really went to see The Go! Team but missed most of their set, thought Soulwax were a bit disappointing but LCD were headlining and blew us away.

If that was the same night?

Ha. Small world....It was a friday, I think I saw the last Go! team song, but I could have dreamed it. 😉

I have to disagree about soulwax though  , they were rocking. 🙂

Front row balcony

How do you dance on the balcony?!

Seeing as we're doing that - Concorde2, Brighton, August 2004 - danced so much it hurt. Up there in the best gigs of my life, with 2 great mates from back then too. Fab.

While we're having a LCD love in, lets include the unmistakable James Murphy production of Pulps 'After You'

😀

While you fellas are demonstrating impeccable taste (probably just a fluke), I'd like to recommend some related musical artistes of which you may or may not be familiar -

The Juan MacLean

Yacht

and the best band for riding to, if you're that way inclined (best live band around too) -

!!!

All My Friends by John Cale

Absolute classic. One of my favourite tracks… and easily in any top ten of cover versions.

I missed that "new" Pulp track… thanks… it's very Roxy Music, isn't it?

American Dream… I avoided it as I assumed it would be disappointing… but bought the CD last month… it's now on just about constantly in the car… it's ***** ace! It's Berlin period Bowie/Eno/Fripp as played by Joy Division & Talking Heads… despite being a long sprawling drawn out album, you still want more at the end.

Oh, and the extra ending track you can download is a fun addition.

"Dance Yourself Clean" is ace through the headphones so you can hear the silence between the notes.

I used to consider them a "guilty pleasure" until I realised that I actually really like them. 🙂

I subvert James Murphy's intentions by actually running to 45:33.

And American Dream is great.  One in a set of good "white middle aged men whining about stuff, mostly about getting old" albums that were released last year, including Fleet Foxes, The National and The War on Drugs.

Sorry, no I'm not having it grouped with that. Especially not with the War On ****ing Drugs thank you. 😠

A couple of days spent listening to James Murphy DJ Mixes - some good stuff on Soundcloud/mixcloud has left me obsessed with this track.  Brilliant Bill Withers remix.  Also two tickets to All Points East with LCD headlining!

Yacht were brilliant.  See mystery lights is a banger of an album and there are some fantastic remixes about. Saw them in Toronto too a few years ago. They have however gone a bit shite
