Blimey, had a couple of his albums (Either/Or and Figure 8 ) on my ipod for a good long while and never listened to either. Put Either/Or on in the car on the way home from work last night and I am hooked.

I've always liked that kind of music (Jeff Buckley, Wilco etc.) and Alt Country like Drive By Truckers/Jason Isbell, but is there anything else I've been missing out on.

Surely bright eyes has to be on the list too
On the female side Sharon van etten is a recent favourite of mine that sort of fits the bill.

I felt a keen sense of loss when Elliot passed, so sad.

Maybe you'd like Bill Callahan AKA Smog too.

Damien Jurado.
Nick Drake.
Ryan Adams.
Patrick Watson.
Sufjan Stevens.

I know very little about Elliot Smith. I've heard bits and bobs, which I thought were OK. But this got played over and over when I first discovered it.

Has to be the acoustic version though. Normal one is a bit meh.
