I thought it has struggled a lot without the live audience. Even though it has a high degree of rehearsal/light scripting the stand up folk do seem to bounce off the crowd. Last night seemed a step up though and I have to say Glenn Moore's joke at 2:22 left me blank faced until I got it after 5 seconds and I've been laughing at it a regular intervals since. Funny and mildly offensive and sad in parts.
Excellent.

Task master seems to be working okay with no audience.

It’s fared much better than HIGNFY which has fallen completely flat without an audience

HIGNFY fell flat on its face when all the joke politicians that used to go on it became the leaders of the country no?

We were part of the remote audience for last night's MTW. That is all. 🙂

I'm surprised either has survived this year to be honest. It's not as if the news has left significant room for lampoon without being either a bit too dark and offensive for mainstream TV or somewhere around the level of punch and Judy.

Surprised anyone actually bothers to watch these hackneyed old shows in their death throes 😀

We declined to volunteer to be part of the visible audience... 🙂

HIGNFY is virtually unwatchable. It was slowly dying anyway, but without an audience it's dreadful. Everyone involved seems very smug and self-satisfied for no discernable reason I can work out

It needs putting out of its misery

I never thought I'd say this but if you want to watch razor-sharp but very funny commentary on today's politics and events then Russel Howard on Sky is absolutely bloody brilliant!

We wondered how you get on as part of the audience- what’s the process?

I only half watched last night. Thought it was rubbish really. Some millennial from London making jokes about “tier 3”. Come back when you’ve got something useful to contribute you prick.

Taskmaster on the other hand was Hilario as ever.

Signed up years ago for notifications about future audiences, might have been directly with the Beeb website, mostly redirected to the production company from the Beeb. After that, you get the occasional mail about suitable shows asking if you want to join the ballot for free tickets, so just pop yourself down, some you get, most you don't. For the online stuff, if you get "tickets" they mail you the link and, for MTW, we got another mail asking if we wanted to apply to be on the video wall - we did not. 🙂

It's a cool thing to do, we've seen a few recordings over the years - Just A Minute, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, Mock The Week. We're watching/listening to tonight's recording of The Infinite Monkey Cage. 🙂

Weirdly, I think this has been the weakest series of TM so far, which is disappointing given the promising cast-list. The quality of the task-loophole-finding was definitely down in the first few episodes, normally there are a couple of smartarses who figure them out.

You mean like bringing the doorbell in from outside the door... 🤣

Ranganation showed how the remote stuff can work... MTW seems to have learnt a bit from that... but not quite enough. Others have failed completely. Agree with the obvious example...

We were - & our faces were on BBC 2 - I was impressed how much material doesn't make the live show, watching for nearly 3hrs while they record was surprisingly tiring.

They pipe in the laughter from the audience, there's a website that acts as the mic

Only catch any of these occasionally and enjoy when I do. I tried to watch Taskmaster every week on Ch4 and got bored after a few weeks, so stopped watching.
I’ll go back to my occasional viewing I think.

Long evening, isn't it! We were surprised, too. 🙂

I interviewed Milton Jones a few times and he said it was a gruelling show to do and the day before recording was equally busy.

We went to a recording of infinite monkey cage and it was about as long as the show. Very little cut, hardly any breaks. Also went to Strictly and that was way longer the show. Loads of extra bits, re-recording of links. Very slick operation though for the live bit.

Yeah, this series has been a bit flat, but last nights episode was great. DMC chowing down on a whole banana was great. And Johnny's pleading "i'd never beg...but come on!" 😀

Aside from the lack of audience/banter in the theatre bits, I don't think the tasks in general have been as good. The '5 doors' and 'doorbell' tasks this week were good fun though.

Did you?!? Very cool, I imagine he's a nice chap. I bet it IS hard work - I guess they're briefed on questions the day before and spend the day making up gags?

Really enjoyed it tonight - few technical issues but a really good show. Much shorter recording than MTW - I imagine radio is significantly simpler to record than telly.

It was in the glamorous arena of local press entertainment pages. Usually just press releases but often enough the chance to interview in person (occasionally) or over the phone. We had titles from Oxfordshire to Hampshire so artists would cover 4 or 5 venues on out patch. I'd do a quick story from the press release and then try to organise a chat somewhere on the early part of the tour.
He came across as a good bloke but we just ended up chatting as I'm too big of a fan at heart and after listening to the tape I had trouble writing a piece with much decent content. Always a bad sign when you are talking as much as the guy you are interviewing.
Fun part of the job though and I still get sent download links for new albums and movies to review or preview showings for the bigger films.
