For the last 2 nights the cat won't leave the kitchen and she sits staring at the floor !

If you go out the room turn lights off and then come back in a while later she's in the same spot staring !

Mice under the floor boards can be the only answer???

No evidence of mice in the house and not found any dead half eaten one yet !

Worth lifting floor boards ?? Or wait till one says hi ?

How old is the cat? It can be a sign of dementia in dogs.

Does your cat seem healthy otherwise?

Mine does a similar thing, and has done since we got her as a kitten - I think it's what some cats do.

Stare at the wall behind me as if there's a ghost/axe murderer until I look over my shoulder and see.......a blank wall.

It's a well known fact that cats can see in more dimensions than we do!

Mine spend a couple of days staring at a storage box. Lifted it up and there was a frog hiding underneath it.

Nearly as daft as staring at a computer screen for hours.

The family cat lost a mouse down the house where the radiator pipe went into the skirting.

It paid special attention to that spot for the next 10 years, somehow hoping the mouse would pop back out one day.

Odd that the cat is doing this just at night - if there was something stuck under the floorboards making a noise the cat would be there 24/7. Might be that there's something that has started to pass through the underfloor void during a nocturnal ramble . . . if this is the case you could look for points of entry/exit. Or, whatever is making the noise could itself be sleeping during the day (so no noise).

It could be the current high winds rushing thru air-bricks in the void?
Our loft sounds like there's a student party going on up there.

This one's easy.

The students next door have been getting your cat stoned.

It's a Spider kicking about, Mine does it all the time, I think there is as much satisfaction in watching me meltdown over it as waiting for the errant arachnid to reappear!

Cat started a thread over at cattrackworld "How long do I have to stare at the floor before my servant does what I want him to"

Spider one makes sense but still reckon it's mice, just have to wait and see!

Time to get worried is when you go into the kitchen to find the cat perched on a stool holding a shotgun pointing at the floor in an expectant manner...
