Casa del Stoner has just been overflown by quite a large drone. Fixed delta wing silhouette. Possibly somewhere between 50cm and 1m wingspan. Came in from the east across the Severn (Worcestershire) flew out of sight west to the Malvern hills, turned and back overhead returning east until out of sight. I reckon in total it was in sight for over 4km over 5mins+. c.400' up.
Civil or defence? How does that work with CAA regs?
EDIT: Good grief, I didnt realise you could actually buy something like that with such a size and range for so little money in the UK https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/product/tbs-caipirinha-ii-pnp/
Its back again. Its actually flying in the cloud base which according to the local air field weather station is around 550ft.
The invasion has started!
Air defence high powered potato gun required...
We've got a medium sized drone Inspire 2 at about 65cm width. And it is very much medium sized trust me.
4km would be a bit cheeky but you can get exemptions from the CAA for certain specific ops.
I think standard distance is 500m with line of site, certainly with my license. (can't remember if that's changed with my new lciense.)
This has 45 minute flight time and you can make a gps waypoint route so don't even need to be in range of it (from a techinical point of view, if not a legal one!) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Parrot-PF750001-Disco-Skycontroller-Cockpit/dp/B01JYRII4Y
Fixed wings tend to be up to specialised stuff.
Oooh TBS! They are to drones as ‘Line of Sight’ is to responsible cycling... 😄
The invasion has started!
You'll need one of these mounted in your garden soon..

we get a lot of low level military air traffic through here, usually heading to the marches and into Wales, Chinooks, C-130s etc.
This drone is flying certainly at the chinook altitude, possible a little below the C-130.
I can see why CAA are getting exercised about the growth in larger UAVs bombing around the shop.
Can make a flying wing from foamboard for half that price.
flitetest.com
$20 for a flying wing kit, $100 for the RC gear and battery.
Way more flight time on fixed wing than a "drone". And my plan is to make good use of foam board to stay under 250g when the stupid RC aircraft / drone registration laws come in.
Like he hasn't already.
Bit of high bird practice for next season?
its like hitting a midi clay off a springing teal trap!
Or , surveying for the new bypass?! Compulsory purchase of casa Stoner to follow?
😉
better go lift the patio.
There's a few local companies that do drone associated tech Stoner. I think I heard they test flight out of Defford too so that may explain things.
out of defford would make sense.
Ill ask a qinetic mate if it was one of his.
