Looking for a new (Windows) laptop with good speakers and screen.
We mostly use the laptop for watching films hence the speakers and screen (we don't have/want a TV).
We occasionally edit some home videos, YouTube stuff, but don't need a full blown gaming machine. Under £1k in case the kids drop it!
Any recommendations?
At the moment we're using a 2010 MacBook which is struggling. The screen and audio are really good so would like at least as good. But I don't want another Mac for reasons of repairability and compatibility. Plus Windows 10 is really good and I prefer it now to Mac OS.
Bump!
The 12.9” iPad Pro.
Not windows, does what you want better than anything else.
Sorry to be annoying but it is difficult to look beyond the new Macbook for what you want.

Review suggests it has good sound quality?
Or maybe the previous version might be cheaper?

I need to do typing etc. From time to time so do need a proper laptop.

Definitely don't want a new Mac. I looked on ifixit.com and the new ones are unrepairable. I've had Mac for 20 years now, and they do break from time to time. And I'm fed up of the yearly subscription for bobbins charger cables! Plus I've had too many compatibility issues trying to get stuff into Windows laptops at work. I use Windows 10 at work and just find it works better than the latest Mac OS.

They’re doing a really nice new keyboard/case/cover stand for the new iPad and it handles a mouse well. 🙂

Probably not a big driver for your decision - but it's all USB-C now - so any USB-C cable will do the business.

Look at the dell outlet. External speakers are cheap enough if you want to boost the sound.
tools for the job? Not sure what the reason you don't want a TV (I know there are many and varied), but I can't think of many worse ways to watch a movie when there's 4 or more of you- maybe an external monitor as well as a laptop might make things better for everyone?
Our last windows laptop came from Dell outlet as oldtennisshoes suggests, there's normally coupons floating round for an extra 15-25% off, and if not you can email them for a one-off 10% off code. Think there's generally a shortage of laptops at the moment though, and if Dell factory is closed then outlet might be short on stock.
Had a fairly good experience with the windows surface laptops. The quality seems pretty good and mine has proven to be durable. I'd buy another.
