i have an old samsung laptop .
upgraded to Windows 10 and , although the battery was very tired and not holding charge it was working fine plugged in .
Since sunday , when the laptop is ON , it wont charge and the power light is off . it dies after 15 minutes .
when laptop is off , power light comes on .
without the battery , the power light is on but laptop wont start .
i have just fitted a new battery but the problem persists .
any ideas what might be causing the issue ?
I don't know, but I'd be tempted to check the power cable first
Yeah I'd suspect the power cable/box.
Did you buy the battery from a reputable source? Was it brand new?
One other consideration is that if the laptop's been knocked about whilst plugged in, the solder points that attach the power socket to the main board on the laptop can become broken, so it's always wise to never put any stress where the power cable plugs into the laptop.
