I’m in the same boat as a few here it seems. Currently working my notice.
I want to sort out a decent home laptop for some learning on Agentic AI. Mostly browser based.
I’m somewhat out of date on the hardware side. Anyone in end user compute or has bought recently got any views?
I mean I could ask ChatGPT but the hallucinations here will be better 🙂

Mostly browser based - any decent laptop will be fine so just buy something with a decent screen, connectivity etc.
It's the apps/workload the actual laptop will be doing, to pay attention too, for example if you need a stong processor but not nessesarily needing a good GPU etc... I dunno anything about AI but I think it can benefit from powerfull GPUs if you are running demanding workloads on the laptop rather than remotley connecting so some resource via a browser or whatever?
And whats your budget? if its 'only' say £500 rather than £1000 then that will pretty much dictate what to get.
Programming agent based models can be done on anything. Checking that they run can also be performed on almost anything as well, but as with most models, scale requires ram and running requires compute. Machine reinforcement learning then requires time on those resources. The latter part, for anything other than toy problems, you’re not going to be able to do on a laptop, no matter how powerful. My recent multiagent problem required weeks of run time on 64 physical cores and terabytes of ram to perform the training.
Thx Daffy, this is very much a learning exercise over a production problem
<googles "agentic AI">
Hasn't Cyberdyne Systems got this pretty much sewn up ?
