Having problems with a laptop we are using for home schooling (joy). The battery does not charge up. When I take it out completely and plug the charger in the laptop won't turn on. The charger works okay in another machine.
Any advice? Is there something I can replace inside the laptop?
Thanks.

Interested in this as I have a similar problem. The battery was always a bit flakey and would only hold charge for a week at best. Plugging the charger in would work and charge it up but now it's completely dead. Have tried a different charger with no success.

Steve, does the battery charge when the laptop's switched off? And is the charger the one that came with the laptop?

It could be that the charger isn't providing sufficient power for the laptop. So if the laptop normally needs 80W and the charger is only providing 50W, the laptop wouldn't be able to run just on the charger as it'd be drawing too much power; but it might be able to charge the battery with the laptop off.

Nope, doesn't charge at all whether on or off. I've tried a different battery (we have 2 identical machines bought 2nd hand at the start of the first lockdown) and that battery doesn't charge either.
Charger is not the branded one, but is the same power output so should be okay.
It does show the plugged in icon when running but the battery still loses power.
I ordered a new battery and charger yesterday before I started investigating further at it always had problems with randomly switching off. However I think the fact that it doesn't come on at all when the battery is removed, just with the power cable fitted may indicate a bigger problem than a duff battery?
