I can't decide wether I want another laptop or go back to a desktop. I liked the no fuss of the laptop but I don't need the portability of one as I've found just browsing sites like this and checking e-mail my itouch is good enough.
The two I was looking at is the MacBook and the iMac. The iMac has dual 3ghz over 2.4, 4mb instead of 2mb of ram and 500gb over 250gb hard drive.
I must admit I am being drawn to the 21.5" monitor over the 13" screen and I am thinking the iMac migh be better long term as this will be the last computer I buy for a while.

Get a laptop plus screen/keyboard/mouse - best of both and means you don't need to spend a fortune to get a big screen laptop.

I did what b r recommends.

You can get a top quality 22" LED backlit screen for £130, proper aluminium Apple keyboard £28, and the fantastic Magic Mouse is worth the extra £50. Problem solved.

I decided to get a new MacBook. Looked at the pro but for what I want it for it just wasn't worth the extra money.

I run my Macbook with a 24" Dell screen that cost £150. They run fine with the screen closed, or you can open it and have two monitors (best to get a stand or something to raise the Macbook though). Acts like a desktop, but I can unplug everything and put it in my bag if I need portability - no faffing about syncing things either. Mine has a 320GB HD and 4GB RAM so pretty snappy.

That said, where laptops fall down is on disk performance - unless you can afford a SSD (and make do with much less capacity) then the iMac will be a fair bit quicker wherever there's lots of disk usage going on.

That said, the iMac is a great system anyway - if you know you won't want to move it and want a really clean setup without all the cable clutter then it's a great bit of kit.
