I bought a laptop on Boxing day last year.
Just got back from a break and the AV it came with, well, its expired!

Should I go out and buy one before my laptop dies in a frenzy of fire and penguins, or cam i source a decent free version from the t'internet?

Your advice is appreciated!

Microsoft security essentials removed the other thing. All free

Only used free av in the last 10 years. Microsoft one is top if the pile and better then the paid ones.

DO NOT INSTALL ANOTHER AV!!!

try to remove the one that has expired and either download Microsoft security essentials or CCleaner and malwarebytes or all three.

Use Revo, or something similar to completely remove the old AV, and then install something like AVG, which is free to download and works well IME. The 'puter mags also still rate AVG.. although there are other free ones that are just as good, but I can't remember what they are at the moment.
