Not up to speed on these things but essentially what are the differences? Son has asked for one for chrimbo and not sure what I should be looking for. Won't be required for gaming but will be used for homework, general web surfing, music etc. Will need to load software such as MS Office for homework etc. Please help?? Ooooh, not silly expensive either, £400 max but cheaperer is betterer
netbook - smaller, lighter, generally slower processor, less memory, less disk.
Laptop - bigger screen, faster processor and graphics, more memory, more disk, dvd drive. heavier.
And another factor to add to the above list -
Long battery life
Shorter battery life
In addition to the above,
Netbook specs are artificially restricted for licensing purposes. MS sell cheaper versions of Windows to manufacturers so long as their build is under a given specification (which is why you rarely see them with more than 1Gb of RAM).
