Thinking of getting some winter sun - anyone know whether Lanzarote is good for road or gravel biking?  Any good bike hire recommendations?  TIA

Seemed pretty good for road when I was there in March.
Shame my one and only dose of the COVID coincided with my visit.
Roads were virtually deserted once we headed inland.
Can probably get you some good routes from my bestie who runs coaching there sometimes, in fact he's on here but I can't recall his user name!!

Lanza is good for road biking. No major alpine style mountains but it is generally hilly and quite windy. There are a limited number of gravel routes, most of the island is volcanic so it’s a bit rocky for a gravel bike

I've done some road cycling there and the wind can be something. Massive headwind from the North or east off the Sahara. Roads are great though.
Fairly lively MTB scene.

If you stay at Club le Santa they have road bike hire as part of the package, mtbs too.
As folk have said northerly headwinds are a bummer. Lots of routes in strava heatmap.
Cycling recognised as part of the island's attraction, so roads excellent and drivers considerate.
Riding through the lava fields of the extinct craters is stunning.

Wasn't sure about how to access the mtb scene, seems very sandy and hard work

Saw plenty of road cyclists when I was there in October last year, it struck me as a great place to 'train' rather than 'ride/enjoy' cycling but perhaps that was just because most road cyclists seem to have perfected that steely/earnest grimace that lets you know they're a serious athlete and not just having fun.

That may just be because they were all riding into 30mph headwinds though.

I go 3 times a year fro road cycling. We stay in Costa Teguise and there are 4 places there to hire bikes from.  Theres som steady mtb routes and lots of decent road riding - if you don't ind the wind.

Contra to at least one view above, the gravel riding is excellent and very extensive (much more than there is tarmac road) - you just need to know where to look. I spend 4-8 weeks a year there (Costa Teguise usually) and wouldn't take anything other than a gravel bike. Not sure the rental places have worked this out yet though - plenty of MTB and Road bikes to hire in CT and Puerto del Carmen but not much gravel yet.

Road riding certainly is enjoyable out there IMO. I've stayed in Costa Teguise and Arrietta in recent years. To me the northern part of the island is perfect; plenty of climbs but not as huge as Gran Canaria or Tenerife. I'm only really out for a few hours so there's plenty to keep me amused. The Tabayesco climb then up the switchbacks is perfect for a somewhat portly 50 something. Then looping around the Corona volcano and back through the lava field from Orzola with a tailwind.

I've taken my own and rented, as said a number of places in Costa T to rent.

Bike hire, I use Revolution bikes mainly because I stay more remote away from the resorts and they deliver to my apartment and set the bike up for me and then collect at the end of the hire.

Road cycling there is really good, quiet roads and in perfect condition, car drivers are really good, as above some nice climbs in the North, it can be windy but I didn't find it too bad, loads of nice little coffee/cake stops.

I've already booked up for next March.
