Anyone doing it this year? Hopefully it won’t be the same conditions as last year.
Did it last year for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it (29er carbon HT).
Would have entered this year but planning a holiday around then, although I would love to make it .
This will be on my radar for next year. Just not fit enough right now. Thanks for heads up.
Yes group of 4 of us.
All on cx/gravel bikes i think
What the on/off road mix there? Looks like a lot of back roads in there
I’d say it’s 60% tarmac and 40% dirt, more suited to cross/gravel bikes...which is what the original concept of the event has always been.
Deffo suited to gravel / CX bikes, although the off road stuff round the back of skiddaw was pretty technical in the wet and mud last year
Yeah, its awesome.
I did it on my CXer a few years ago and it was flippin' marvellous.
You'll have a great time.
we followed the gpx at the start of the week. We rode 29HTs bit a gravel bike would be faster.
The gpx we had was compromised by some road biildimg work so you have to ride througj a large scale road build.
It was ace!
Anyone doing it'll ride past me at some point. I'll be the short beardy guy with the cheeseboard 🙂
Yep, signed up for the long route.
Going to try it on my hardtail 29er. I've got a cross bike too but the MTB is pretty new so looking forward to getting it out for a proper blast.
Managed 40 miles on it the other day in and around Hamsterley which was about 90% off road so hopefully it won't feel too much longer. Not expecting to break any records though...
did it 2016 & 2017 both times on my cross bike.... 2016 was much more enjoyable, i imagine that the full 2016 route will be open again this year given the weather we've had... but, not doing it this year, which saddens me 🙁
Well that was predictable.
Drove through the floods to Keswick. Parked up. There's the email on my phone...event cancelled!
Not surprised TBH. Pretty shocking conditions here.
Real shame, and I know the organisers agonized over it because tomorrow's forecast looked better, but then EA flood warnings popped up for Keswick and there was no other safe choice. I was out putting out signage for it this morning and then taking it back in this afternoon, nearly got blown off my bike in one squall up over Mosser. The boss said one of the fords on the back of Skiddaw section - not the one with the bridge nearby - was mid-thigh depth on one of the team who's over 6'.
Couple of the descents were like riding a stream bed this afternoon. Was glad I was on my hardtail not my cross bike!
