Googling for a recommendation hurt my brain, so I thought this might be a better place to come ask.

I’m staying in Levens for a few days early June. Will need to hire a bike probably as bringing my bike from Oz is looking awkward. Will be riding solo but have a Wahoo I can upload gpx routes to (assuming I remember to bring it).

I’m happy with hills and tech. Local rides are often over well over 1000m in 30-40km, 1500+ in 65km and have done 100km rides. Temperatures often at 30c.

Enjoy all riding but best off the tar. More than happy with a bit of gnar.

What would you do?

Do you like hike-a-bike? That’s where the Lakes gives the most. Most decent Lakes hikey routes around 1500-2000m mark. Heat not gonna be a problem for a ??Queenslander??.

Yeah I’m fine with that. Plenty of hike a bike is happening in the jungle.

Do you have transport from Levens?

How many days you doing??

Have you scoped out bike hire yet?

<edit. Just realised how stupid questions 1 & 3 are in combination>

Of course you have transport, otherwise you're walking a long way>

3.5 passes from Staveley is the obvious option. Let me check bike hire...

Levens just along the road from me, there are other locals too, so let us know dates and we'll see if any use (plus Generalist likes guiding;) can assist (I've not been real MTGing for a while though! all biking works for me:)
Plenty of bike hire, may need booking Staveley 'Wheelbase', Grizedale 'Biketreks' and others.
Don't think 30 Deg is a risk, lucky with 20 Deg 😉 Prey for weather!

According to their website, wheelbase aren't hiring bikes at present due to 'rona. Tried to phone to confirm but they're not open yet,! 9:44

Looks like biketreks only hire from grisedale hub, and only for 7 hours so I'd be tempted to just ride in the forest. Loads of great bridleways but very lacking in hikeabike. 😉

Balls, just remembered that when the subject came up last month Alison said that there are still loads of trees down in Grizedale Forest, so maybe not the best option.

If you defo want hikeabike then the main loop of this route
https://strava.app.link/tJCWh1R6epb goes up Coniston Old Man via some good tracks followed by a heinous carry then drifts North from the summit and drops down some twisty grassy tracks to Little langdale

Thanks for the tips. And for checking out the bike hire options. It's much appreciated.

Happy to ride with locals if it works out. A guide is always nice.
Dates are still subject to adjustment - bombing around the country for two weeks trying to catch as many people as possible.

Yeah Grizedale is hit and miss still, I tried to ride down Lawson Park a week or so ago and there was still at least 10 monsters in the way making the parkamoor climb unrewarding. I've read that 3 witches/grandad etc. is now clear but significantly different having lost so many trees and I still think it therefore needs bedding in. I was tempted to head over there tomorrow but I can't be doing with trees blocking progress so will continue to avoid it for now.
