You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
The weather looks good for Easter so thinking of doing a four day hike in the hills. Looking at parking around Coniston and have seen Walna Scar car park on google maps. Google search mentioned that it might be changing (and/or have changed) to Pay and Display. Does anyone know if its still free? Alternatively are there any other good free parking spots around that area?
Cheers
They've not changed it yet, as far as I can tell. Was going to become marked bays instead of the current free-for-all as well.
I was there last month - its still free. The road to get up to it however is exceptionally steep and single lane. Also the carpark itself has craters bigger than the moon.
in coniston itself i always park on the roadside just up from the black bull or go to torver and there is a few spaces at the bottom of the track up to walna scar from there. both have limited parking though and would need getting there early at busy times.
Up there last week... it's still free, and a free for all with cars plonked anywhere.
It was 'full' by 9am on a sunny Saturday mind you
Thanks for the replies. Good that it's still free. Good point about being full by 9am. Will have to maybe rethink my arrival. Is there a gate across the entrance or is it open 24/7?
There is a gate, with a mind of it's own.
