So trying to plan ahead a little.....
Usually a beach summer holiday but my wife and daughter are persuadable to Lake Annecy next summer for a more active summer holiday. Planning to take the car with MTBs for me and the boy. Wife enjoys running and everyone enjoys paddle boarding. Prefer to eat out most days. Not averse to splitting to 1 week at the lake and another higher in the mountains.
I've no idea about that area in summer... Closest I've been is Serre Chevalier with the boy (which was fantastic). Any recommendations for places to stay / accommodation? Prefer not to camp. Actually thinking about it any recommended lakes would be good...
Its a beautiful area, but in August it will be too hot for running and cycling. Also very crowded with tourists. Can you not go any other time ?
Good mountain biking up the hills out of the town, but you will have to pedal up.
We met the daughter, partner and kids at one of the lake side campsites a couple of years ago. You don't have to camp, as they have plenty of Cabins/Chalet type accommodation.
Fantastic pool with slides and all that fun stuff. Cycle track out the back of the campsite that takes you into town (or around the lake). Short walk to the lake for water sports and shops etc.
I can't comment on the biking as we were on our way to Italy.
I was sceptical as I hate that sort of thing normally, but I was impressed. I can get you the name of the site if you are interested (PM me)?
Marko I would be extremely interested as this original posters question is almost the same one my wife asked me today , were also looking but for July 21
We went to Lake Annecy this summer as a family. We stayed to the South West, at Camping Les Fontaines. August would be a great time to visit and would not be too hot at all - its the Alps, not Riviera! We had lovely weather, between 25-30 and had a couple of days of torrential rain to clear the air (2 week holiday). Took all our bikes. As a family we rode around the lake one day (25km, but easy riding), we also had a day in Annecy which we rode to (traffic is a nightmare anyway). I took my son to Les Arcs for a couple of days and also La Clusaz, which both had good blue trails - also activities for the non cycling. I took myself off on a few mornings using Trailforks to find trails. One trail at the top of Col De Forclaz, which is about a 1hr climb, but gentle'ish. Also found a trail under the cliffs out the back of our resort (1hr tough offroad climb + pretty tough descent). Also, a must, is Dev'Albertville from La Saisses to Albertville. Free bus shuttle to the resort, then chair to top. Epic 1hr descent 🙂
We meet some friendly neighbours who had paddleboards and they took them out a number of times on the lake. We hired a small motorboat for a few hrs as well.

Great place to visit in August.
Yes it's warm but not unbearable.
Very busy when I've been for the Lake swim 15th August, think they also have a huge fireworks display at the start of August.
Traffic while driving around the lake is pretty bad, although if cycling there are dedicated cycle lanes. We used them last October(less busy and a lot cooler temperature wise) when we hired bikes and cycled around the lake, youngest and me were on a tandem what an experience!
We have stayed in a couple of Air BnBs in the town itself. If doing this make sure they have parking available as most of the car parks charge!
Thanks for those replies. Time to research.... Great photos.... Sells it for me!
Great place in August, we stayed at camping la ravoire, kids got free scuba diving lessons. Great for biking and walking, if you go last 2 weeks if August 2nd week will be much quieter as the French holidays will have finished
