My favourite drink is Bavaria 8.6 in all its forms but it's difficult to get hold of in the UK. I can drink Special Brew/Tennents Super in an emergency but they're not what they used to be.

I've had some success by combining mainstream lagers with bourbon and Guinness/Newcastle Brown with whisky.

What do you use to give ordinary pints a kick (no limes + stick of celery + creme de menthe + paper umbrellas please)

half pint glass, a touch under a quarter pint of lager, a touch under a quarter of cola, drop in a shot glass (inc the glass) of amaretto = Dr Pepper

50/50 Smirnoff Ice and Lager
or
50/50 Stella, Strongbow & a dash of blackcurrant.

I assume you are a student?

I'm sure Ton will have a vast array of receipes 😉

Lager (1/2 pint), Cider (1/2 pint), Vodka, Gin, Blue Curacao, dash of orange juice if you're feeling flush and don't mind drinking something that looks like a pint of fairy liquid. This isn't a session drink mind......

**EDIT** I dread to think what this would cost these days - not drunk it since I was a student.

Nice beer and a nice whyskey, each in their own glass side by side. No need to mix them.
If you want strong beer just check out any decent modern brewery for some stronger brews plenty out there

Think we used to call that green diesel slowbloke. Bloody rocket fuel - one and done IIRC!

Lager, Blue Bols and a double Vodka a la depth charge. Pissed in a Pint, we used to call it the Blue Bastard.

Pint of Guinness and a couple of shots of Tia Maria gives a very passable coffee cocktail.

I used to sometimes pop a shot of Jameson in a pint of Guinness when it was last orders.

Assuming this isn't a wind-up, why not just buy one of the many high ABV "craft ales" kicking about now, or indeed some Belgian beer?

I have tried them but they're a bit too artisan for my primitive palate. I prefer a basic but strong pint

btw has anyone tried freezing lager to increase the alcohol content? Apparently the water freezes before the alcohol so you can separate them. i wondered if you could do this in a domestic freezer.

Smirnoff Ice is only 4-5% so a Turbo Shandy wouldn't be any stronger than a straightforward pint of Stella

Lager and cider - is that called diesel?

Lager and super cider (white lightning) - turbodiesel?

As said above.

Lager + Smirnoff Ice - Power shandy
Drink a doubles worth
Add Vodka - Turbo Power shandy
Drink Half - add wkd of your choice (as reef no longer exists) - Tropical Turbo Power shandy

Tennants Super + Strong white cider + port - Snakebosh.

Or just strawpedo a bottle of white wine.

*I have not been a student for a long time, but that was our general idiocy (except for when the local did a triple vodka and a bottle of alcopop for £5 and bogoff....)

They used to be the tipple of choice for hobos?

What are they now?

I'm with Mike Smith on this one. Except my chaser of choice is a dutch gin / jenever with a pint of lager. Or a kopstoot as it's known in Holland. Which translates as headbutt.
I'm terribly sophisticated.

Guinness, Pernod and black.

Or, if you like Chocolate Oranges, Guinness, vodka and orange.

The only acceptable cocktail for a man to drink is a Manhatten (it's in the name, yeah 😀 ) or a Bloody Mary.

Tequila and regret?

I have no ****in idea what a Rusty Nail is.

A Martini Espresso is for someone who won't drink whisky neat and then snort a line of coke during lunchtime.

I am secretly partial to Old Fashioned variations.

@raybanwomble, Old Fashioned is far superior to a Manhattan, and also doesn't come with the vile cherry.

Spent a couple of months in Korea this year, drink of choice is beer with the local spirit (soju)

Never mind lager based cocktails - I got talking to some mad guy at Wickerman a few years ago who asked if I wanted any of this cracking cocktail he'd made, turned out to be a 2l camelbak full of vodka & wine (white obvs), tasted like a 50/50 ratio, last seen him swaying gently whilst shouting "shiiiite" really loudly at Julian Cope. 2/10 - would not drink again.

As students we dared a mate to have some buckfast spritzers - buckfast & white lightening. Off he popped to the shops and made the first one. Actually tasted not too* bad.

What shortly follwed was witnessing the drunkest, most hyperactive guy you ever have seen.

*Relative term.

One spectacular xma eve I mixed cooking brandy with a 9% real ale/ Barley wine .
The Brandy arrived in the bottom of a 200ltr drum and was used for brandy butter .
We drained the dregs and took it home , and a night of very merry mischeif followed. iirc it drank ok ,
The next day I took the remain of said Brandy to my mums for the xmas pud. The usual damp squib of 1o seconds of blue flame follwed by some some white smoke was replaced by the towering inferno and the pud being burnt on top.- no wonder my lips were burning when I tried it neat

Picon beer is nice. You can buy proper picon to mix in or achieve something pretty similar with pimms.

On the subject of 'man' cocktails our tipple of choice back in the day was pernod and red bull. Pernod is pretty much the only thing you can taste in red bull so it sort of works.

I worked in a bar in London that did beer cocktails.

Southern wind was melon liquer with beer, a really hoppy beer with gin is knockout tasty , and a boiler something was rye whiskey and pale ale. Gin,ginger beer and ale too on a summers day. And don’t forget desparados!

last seen him swaying gently whilst shouting “shiiiite” really loudly at Julian Cope

Can’t have been that pissed then – clearly was still in control of his senses

Pure gold! 🤣

I was in Berlin at the weekend and had a beer cocktail called Lupita (but I can't find a recipe for it anywhere). However, it was lager, tequila, bitter lemon and ice - it tasted a bit like Desperados. I enjoyed it and it gave a nice Beer Jacket to keep out the Berlin cold.

+1 for Picon beer.

big inch of Picon in the bottom of a half pint, add 1664 to the top.
Lovely ripe, rich orangey flavour.

A regular tipple at my French local

Biere Picon

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picon_(ap%C3%A9ritif)

My favourite way of dealing with any shitty lager that anyone brings to my house and doesn't drink. Turns cooking beer into something very tasty. The best part of £20 a bottle if you can find it in the UK but about 12 Euro in french hypermarkets.

Back when we were students we used to drink pints of snakebite and black with a shot of Pernod dropped in, aka a Red Witch. Tasty, but messed you up. Turns your sick bright red as well, as I remember...
