Suppose someone you know has been complaining for a couple of years about their laptop being very slow, crashing occasionally, and that being very inconvenient. Suppose you had repeatedly suggested - and I mean dozens of times - that they take it to the local computer chap to have a look at it and give it a clean up, and offered to take it yourself, to try and resolve these issues. Suppose that instead of actually doing something about the problem, they just grumbled every time as if that would magically fix it. Is it reasonable to have totally run out of sympathy for their easily fixed and self-imposed predicament?
Is it reasonable? Yes of course.
In my experience, it's not worth trying to solve all her problems. Just smile and say 'oh dear' when it goes tits up 😉
Install Ubuntu.
Then:
(a) it will go much faster
(b) it will never again go slow for no good reason or get a virus
(c) your friend will never again ask you for help.
Is this a pc problem or man just doesn’t want to go do doctors and find out what’s really wrong.
I recognise all these points
Sounds like they're not yet ready or wanting to get their inanimate object repaired. In which case, leave 'em be.
If it's not an inanimate object and you care for the person you know, be there for them whenever they need you.
You can take a horse to water...

Install hoof into slats.

(c) your friend will never again ask you for help[/i]
But if they do ever need help it will always be you that they come to or moan at.
Worst suggestion (almost) ever.
Maybe there's 'stuff' on the laptop they don't want the repair man to stumble across..
For me it is always:
Hi Leffeboy, my computer is running really slowly. Can you recommend a new one
Me: Is it the second Tuesday of the month
Them: Why yes
Me: Then just restart your computer, there is a Windows update waiting to finish install
Them: the problem seems to have fixed itself
repeat every month 🙁
I wish the restart notice was a bit more prominent really. People shouldn't have to know about patch tuesday
I found that giving my parents an iPad instead of a laptop seriously improved my life 🙂
WIndoz suckz for normal people.

And then struggle to get any device drivers to make the damn thing work...
But I suspect the OS isn't the actual problem here.

Install hoof into slats.
Do you have much experience of kicking women in their genitals?
It is as it is written, and I'm sure you can guess who it is 😀
I'd be very surprised if there's any grot on there, but I might check just in case...
See, I LOVE people like that - my usual solution is “yeah, it’s pretty old and worn out now, we’d better replace all that gen of device now, what’s your budget?”.
The correct response to such complaints from an IT professional would be "have you reported it"? Quite often the answer is "No".
Computers arent dumb ass friendly, so tablets are better for them.
Spent years fixing sister in laws machines and I just don't do it anymore. Sick of running virus checks and rebuilding the machine that takes a weekend up only to get a bottle of wine if I am lucky.
Do you have much experience of kicking women in their genitals?
Are you assuming the person's gender ?
I am offended!
Do you have much experience of kicking men in the genitals?
I already offended regardless of what your experience is 🙂
In my experience, it's not worth trying to solve all her problems.
She has been usurped as the primary sympathy non-recipient by our eldest, who has booked herself flights to Portugal to stay with her Auntie in the summer. From Prestwick (3hrs from home, crap public transport) instead of Glasgow (2hrs from home with a coach from outside our house to the terminal), because it was cheaper, departing 7am, because it was cheaper, on a day when my wife and I are both working so can't drive her there, because it was cheaper and she didn't think to ask about a lift until after she'd booked them. All to save herself about £30 😀
Another valuable lesson about to be learnt here I think!

Isn't there still a train service from Glasgow central to Prestwick? Coach to Buchannan St walk to Central, get train to Prestwick? Probably more than the £30 she's "saved" but still a valuable lesson.
I'm sure there will be something. But a 7am departure probably means doing all that the day before and staying in a travelodge at prestwick. Which is fine, it's her money!

Sounds like my boss with whom I share an office. I ran out of sympathy ages ago.

[s](c) your friend will never again ask you for help.[/s]
(c) your friend will be endlessly asking questions about how to install this or that driver / application, command line help, how to edit various scripts to make things that just work on sensible operating systems actually work, what the hell is going on when there are package updates and it has pages of stuff about having to manually edit a config file due to breaking changes, and how to recompile the kernel because something he wants to install needs it to work.
And remembering that Meltdown and Spectre affect linux just as much.
Or direct him to a linux forum and see him pull his hair out after the smug obnoxious idiots on there refuse to help insisting that he must help himself and become a full level bearded linux wizard to qualify as a linux user before anyone will talk to him.
😉
your friend will never again ask you for help.
HAHA!
Install Ubuntu.Then:
D: Walk away, far away.
I've been trying to learn Linux for a couple of years now and still don't understand it very well. Though after the initial setup and fine tuning it's been pretty boring to be honest, it just works.
But for someone who can't even be bothered to find out why their computer's crashing repeatedly I think the hoof/slats interface might be more productive, and ultimately less painful.
x2 on not installing Ubuntu. I find it difficult to believe that anyone who is prepared to put up with the amount of BS involved with Linux can't put up with patch Tuesdays.

There are night buses that stop at the airport. Despite the airport itself being mince Prestwick has far superior transport connections.
Cheers. Ill get her to look into it!
