Never had a pair, but considering getting some.

How do you tie the laces so they aren't flapping around in the wind and getting caught in your chainset?

Twist and tuck.

Unless, like many, they have a place loop. As seen on many Giro shoes, the tab in the middle.

Perfect first two answers. I assumed they would never look as clean as the first picture, and would be as messy as the second.

If you want old skool in a modern shoe, these look good.

Got a pair of the Giros. Love them. Lasted well too.

You put the lace under the elastic flap and it stays there 95% of the time. However while they look great I'm not convinced lacing is any better than other methods.

The shoe itself is awesome though. (VR90)

TW, my photo is a marketing shot, without a knot etc. Second picture far more representative!

However while they look great I’m not convinced lacing is any better than other methods.

Easier to get the right tension across different parts of the foot, never comes loose, even in vile conditions, and very easily replaced if they break. A spare shoelace is easy to find in almost any village shop, or could be bodge with baler twine or anything else that comes to hand. A broken Velcro strap, or Boa, mid ride and it's game over.

Just the latest fashion innit. Velcro straps are quickest and work best, but look cycling-shoest (never seen a broken one, ever).
Worst are ratchets, never go tight enough and take as long as laces.
(Yes, I have 2FOs 🙂 )

Maybe, but this

Easier to get the right tension across different parts of the foot

I am still looking at a solution to this and feel lace ups could be the answer

Can't swallow the first pill - the right tension has never been a problem. My VR60s have come loose (maybe only once or twice). In fact with the laces there is an element of faff as the tightness is organic - and often slackens etc. So I think a tad more of a pain then velcro.

Sure you can find a lace - but I've never had anything break on BOA or Velcro.

But I still love the shoe (VR60) for what it is.

Have a pair of the dhb lace up MTB ones. By far the comfiest cycling shoe i've ever worn. Also very easy to put overshoes on, as no buckle or straps to get in the way.

Trailwagger - they've been around for a while, looks like they're having a bit of a shuffle and are re-doing the website - the shoes used to be (maybe still are) made by an Italian company called Maressi and sold under the Dromarti name, used to do really nice mitts too (never got my hands on a pair of those - boom boom)

I picked mine up new on ebay about 5 years ago - but if I were to spend £200+ on a pair of shoes i'd buy another pair of these before some 100g spangly carbon fibre disco slippers, mine have probably done at least 5k miles - most of those commuting in the West of Scotland - & they're still in perfect nick apart from some minor wear on the soles from walking (SPD sole so it's pretty chunky - years left in it)
