I miss line printers.

Every report had it's own rhythm.

You could almost judge how well a product was doing by the sound the page being printed sounded.

And you looked like you were working if you had a thick pile of printout on your desk - especially if you had underlined bits in pen and highlighter. 🙂

I always remember running the Unisys One open and the paper pretty much spewing out up to the ceilling and going everywhere.

And having a wallpaper scraper for when the sticky address labels got caught inside and only the backing paper used to come out.

And how many trees you could accidently kill if you set off a full listing of the P142 Life system, those big laser printers would chew boxes of a4 as fast as you could load them.

The joy of running up the corridor chasing the backup tape as it unspolled along the floor, ahh sweet memories.

Not the same, but related, the electronica/classical composer Jóhann Jóhannsson did an album on the IBM 1401.

As it’s a thread about the printer...

Don’t say I’m not trying to bring some culture to the darker parts of the forum... 🤪

Not *strictly* the the same thing, but Renault once taught their V10 to play the British national anthem.
