Work laptop, personal laptop -> One big monitor that I like to use for anything significant + keyboard and mouse. Looked at some HDMI kvm but reviews suggest they cut out unless both computers are plugged in. Normally the case but don't want to be tied to it.
Don't want to install synergy on work laptop. Could do separate hdmi and usb switches but seems like a recipe for being annoyed when you're out of sync.
So recommend me a reasonable priced kvm (<£50, ideally less) hdmi or display port (but only one laptop is display port and the monitor isn't but future proofing) that doesn't crap out when only one computer is plugged in. Or another good idea
Cheap option I use: one of these for USBs (I stuck it underneath the desk, so the button is in reach), then switch inputs on the monitor manually. I went for this because I use a 4K screen, and switches that can handle 4k60hz are ££££. Also works fine for switching things like my webcam, headset, etc.
What my wife uses (because she has 3 to deal with, but a 1080p monitor):
Works fine but keyboard/mouse only - but she only does calls on one of them anyway.
Mine is display port, and doesn’t need both to be on (but one does need to be on).
It’s a star-tech jobbie I got from eBay.
It was under you budget, but secondhand.
