Ive just noticed i can add Komoot app to my Garmin Forerunner 255. I tried loading a route, but it says it wants the maps (as ive not paid for any)
Is the "buy the maps forever" option on komoot (£30) sufficient to then be able to use the komoot maps for navigation on the Garmin? or do you also need a premium subscription? (I have an aversion to perpetual subscription models)
Is it worth having on a mediocre level Garmin with a MIP display?
As far as I know the Komoot maps aren't needed for the Garmin, the Garmin will use it's own maps. It's only the route that is transferred across. You don't even need the Koooot app on the Garmin any more to transfer routes across. I'l give it a shot though as I haven't tried it for ages
edit: just tried it and I see that it has been updated since I last used it. There is an option to use Komoot or Garmin maps but the Garmin map appears to do nothing on the 255 which I have as there are no built in maps. I have the 'forever' Komoot map but it appears to actually want a subscription to show anything 🙁
thanks, thats what i suspected. Not entirely clear on the website, but reading between the lines the garmin functionality is a subscription feature.
the 255 doesnt have embeded garmin, maps, just the breadcrumb trails.
