My mate at work's had one of these, there's no monthly sub, just £35 on ebay and you can access all sorts of TV and Movies through it, plugs into your TV in the HDMI. He says he's been able to watch films on it that haven't even been released on DVD yet so surely it can't be legal. I'm tempted but wary due to the copyright issues. Things like this tend to take off but then get clamped down on once very popular. If you're taking the content down through your internet connection then your isp must easily be able to document what you've accessed.
Any experience STW or advice against do's and don'ts?

My only issue with kodi is the amount of cams on there and you don't know until the film has loaded up, unless some people know some tricks?

so you're not concerned about the fact that you're watching a pirated movie? why not? do you have any assurances that you can't be traced and potentially convicted or do you simply not care and take your chances?

Has anybody, ever?

edit: Not according to the UK Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact),

As far as TV or movies are concerned, Fact says no one in Britain has ever been fined or prosecuted for illegally streaming content.
Fact explained: “When it comes to catching those involved in piracy, it is not our strategy to prosecute the end user [people streaming films at home]. Our interest lies in identifying, disrupting and if necessary prosecuting the individuals who defraud the creative industries by knowingly stealing content

It is illegal however i believe that currently the law is only clamping down on the sellers and not the users although i am sure this will change.

wrecker - if you are using an add on like Genius, SALTS etc, when you get a list of streams the stream names often end with something like '720' or 'HD'. Avoid ones that end with 'CAM'!

jekkyl - you can use an VPN to hide your internet traffic from your ISP like Private Internet Access

Kodi boxes are sometimes a bit tricky to set up if you aren't a technical person but there are plenty of YouTube videos and guides on the internet to help you out

Yeah, pretty much that. I reckon that the authorities have bigger fish to fry than someone who watches a streamed movie a couple of times a month.

Legally streaming is currently stuck in a grey area. When the rules were written no-one thought we would have a network fast enough to watch HD content in realtime so they never considered it.

I believe there is currently discussion on-going in both WIPO and the European Court/Parliment but they have not made a ruling yet!

Loophole tastic... if you not paying anything do you expect it to be 100% above board?
In the end of the day it's not on for the producers/rights holders etc. so if you do it accept that your being naughty/dishonest rather than hiding behind tecnicalities. It's probably on a par with going into Wollies years ago and trying to play the CD/DVD sat in the store

If you do happen to buy one think about going to Kodi and donating some money to them rather than the freeloader who has bastardised their software by filling it with potentially dodgy if not malicious unofficial extensions.

Worth saying that Kodi has never provided or endorsed such extensions and go to great lengths to get these distributors shut down (mainly since said apps have a tendency to stop working or mess things up and they inevitably get the blame)

Have a Kodi box, ok for films, not great for live events. Interface is poor and for some reason when I plug it into my tv it screwss up the surround sound. Largely sits by the side of the TV not plugged in. Make more use of Now TV and the sports passes when I want to watch an event.

I recently installed Kodi on my iMac (No, I didn't realise you could do this either) and it's alright actually.

Not bothered about films and TV (Netflix keeps me busy enough) but for Live Sport it looks very handy and you don't even have to give any money that horrible Murdoch man.

If only I could get one of these dishonest Weegie types to go to the post office, I could see what all the fuss is about.....

Bit of a hassle to use really as you spend more time trying to find a stream that actually works and the picture quality isn't terrible. Let alone trying to find an english version. Gave up trying to catch the latest Borne film.

My view is that many of the TV stations and studios are bringing this onto themselves by not making content more easily available. We were catching up on Game of Thrones and paid for a NOW TV pass to watch all the series. Got to the latest series and they had all the episodes apart from episode 1 which sky had decided to take off as it was over something like 3 months old. Complained to Sky and their response was " Well you can start from episode 2" So they had every episode from every series apart from episode 1 or series 6!! Brilliant.

What did we do to watch episode 1, thats right got a Kodi.

However I am happy to pay for films and programmes but only if they are actually available.

Its a sad state of affairs when I turn to kodi/exodus instead of amazon prime or netflix when I fancy watching a movie.
Live sport is terrible quality, but films can be fantastic unless you are chasing whats currently in the cinemas, and even then some can still be hd, likely with foreign subtitles.
I avoid cam copies, how anyone can be so desperate to see a film recorded with a smartphone is beyond me.
