I switch between using a standard office chair and a yoga ball.  Lately I've been having a few back troubles and find that kneeling is helping so thinking about trying one out.

Seems a lot of variety - any users and recommendations?

I have a Varier Thatsit which it picked up on sale during the first lockdown. Initially I didn’t like it that much and was disappointed, but once things opened up again I went into the shop I bought it from and got it properly set up and now I really do.

At the shop they said a couple of things at 194cm I’m very much at the upper end of fitting the chair, in fact I wouldn’t fit it except I’m relatively short leg/long back. They also said you shouldn’t really think of them as kneeling chairs, the weight is still on your bum, the kneeling is to bring your weight  forward and engage your core more.

Wife has been through a few, the cheap wooden ones don’t last. Currently on one like this which her work provided for wfh, holding up well so far and the gas adjustment is good. https://www.officefurnitureonline.co.uk/posture-deluxe-metal-kneeler-chairs.html

Yeah, don’t get a cheap wooden one. A bloke I used to work with used one and one day it just suddenly gave way underneath him with a loud snap and the rest of us had to (unsuccessfully) try to stifle our laughter as he involuntarily head-butted his keyboard

I have a Varier Variable (around £350 I think) and it has been amazing. I was initially worried about finding the lack of back support tiring for a full day at the desk, but have actually found the opposite. Bought that and a cheap(ish) sit/stand adjustable desk (Ikea Trotten - around £200) about 18 months ago and both have been great for my own lower-back problems.

I had one of those kneeling chairs that simon_g linked above to see, bought it 2nd hand, took a few days to get used to, but once you are they are excellent for somehow eliminating lower back pains. I was skeptical but they really do work. They aren’t a comfy relax all day kind of chair though.
Whatever you decide to go with, go for a good quality one, makes a difference to the comfort and use.

Superb for posture and for dealing with the usual back pains associated with sedentary jobs.

Ive now bought a varier variable plus chair - got it heavily discounted as a cancelled order via fleabay.

Absolutely brilliant bit of kit. Highly recommend it.

Edit - I do have an IKEA sit stand desk, so I alternate between the kneeling chair and standing, which has worked really well for me. The kneeling chair has become my preferred option though.

so I've gone for a variable 'original'.  found a cheap(er) deal on manomano.  not used them before and trust pilot reviews are quite hit and miss.  for a saving of over £100 I thought I'd take the risk and use a charge back if it doesn't turn up.

movable desk is probably the next option.  currently when I fancy a change I'm using my turbo table

I used manomano for a shower screen a few months ago. I had the same apprehensions as they seem to do a bit of anything and everything. But it turned up pretty quickly. Can't remember which courier but it was well packaged and had no problems.

@DT78 - any feedback after a month or so?

Just did a search for this same topic and this came up - I'm spending far too much time sitting and driving and like many MTBers this is contributing to my horrific posture and inflexibility.

Considering a cheap kneeling chair to try and help.

I had a wooden one for a few years. I liked sitting on it, but the castors annoyed me as depending on your selected height adjustment, the castor angle would change and it'd become difficult to scoot in and out of a desk. It was only couple of degrees but it was enough to make them not work properly.
