What’s all that about then? Was on an 1-1/2 hour train journey yesterday and there were 2 of them sat across the aisle, not as if they were listening to music or anything but they didn’t stop twitching their knees. Why do men (it’s always men) do this??
Worse than sniffers!
It's due to anxiety. I've worn the hair follicles off my lower legs because they rub on my legs. I've been doing it since I was a little kid because I had a shitty childhood. I'm now 49
Energy management. Staying warm. Blood flow. Sometimes linked with creative thinking.
A pair of knee tremblers on a train? POIDH
I'll do it constantly in private, I like to think I'm aware enough to supress the impulse in a crowded place.
It feels good to be moving and there's really no reason not to if it's not annoying anyone.
I have the knee and foot moving problem, known as restless leg syndrome. If I don’t move my feet, it’s my knees. It’s really painful if I don’t move when I need to.
It really annoys my wife as she can’t have my legs touching her when on the sofa. My parents were always telling me off for it without realising there’s nothing I can do about it.
Sat here typing this and I’m purposefully keeping them still, it’s a horrible feeling. Like white hot pain in the feet (think long hours in cleats when you get the heat spot)
I’m lucky I can sleep, some people have it a lot worse than me.
It's a mixture of biological and physical reasons...
Movement help sustains those people who have other complications(about a million reasons..including your feet..)..or low energy reserves..like me..I stop I crash ...
Biologically I do it because of a combination of anxiety, insecurity and inability to just be still..
@w00dster...if she puts her weight over your legs it may keep them from moving ..that's what me and the gf do to get past it...also if its anxiety try to get yourself feeling safe when your spending time together..
As per the OP dont knock it mostly these people aren't able to be perceptively aware of that movement ..so just remind your self its often a comfort thing ..I do it a lot especially when I'm stressed(when which I usually chew gum too)..and it's like a calming hand on my chest to know I'm prepared to move straight away if something goes wrong(usually is a sign im anxiety/paranoia)
I’m a fidget, always have been but it was the fact that there were 2 (not sat together) in my peripheral vision and they didn’t stop for the whole journey that made me notice.
Made me realise I sometimes do it when I cogitate/decision making but only for a second, or I tap my fingers on the desk.
I too have Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and need to move my legs almost constantly. It’s incredibly painful and truly debilitating, as it seriously affects my sleep. It’s a neurological condition - not so much psychological.
Also did they look like crack heads!?
