You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've got some sort of oddity with my right knee/leg. When I'm pedalling it doesn't track a nice straight circle but dips in towards the top tube. The left doesn't seem to do the same thing. I broke my right ankle 16 years ago so it could be related to that in some way.
It's not really a problem cycling but I've now started doing some gym work and a bit of running and it seems to be creating issues elsewhere - I've not got pain in the other knee/ankle which I think is from overcompensating.
Any suggestions on where I should seek help? Would this be a physio thing? podiatrist for gait analysis? Cycling fit specialist to get cleats/shoes shimmed?
Get a referral from the GP? I'm sure (s)he'd know
My experience of the NHS for anything like this has been really poor in the last few years. Basically, if you're fit and healthy and can walk they just tell you it's getting old.
Ask at your local sports centres and gyms, they will know someone.
Then[s] stalk them[/s] check out any feedback on social media and the like ,to find who might be right for you.
Ask your local cycling/running/triathlon club for recommendations?
Ask your GP for a referral to you local Podiatry dept for a Biomechanical Assesment
L and I go to a sports masseur once a month for an hour each. This seems to keep us moving, and I do find aches and pains returning after about 3 weeks or so. Obvs neither of do any stretching, so that doesn't really help.
Got ITB pain in my knee which is basically because my medial glutes are poor and my knee collapses in towars the end of a running stride - pretty common.
Went to a physio who spotted it and gave me exercises to do to target the weak muscles that were causing the issue.
So probably a well recommended sports physio, maybe one that cycles (the one I went to in St Johns, nr Woking, Surrey, does). They can then watch your gait and identify if it is musclature related, and if not then maybe off to the doctor.

yep wife has this, Sports therapist has her doing loads of single leg drills to correct eg get out of a chair one legged but keeping knee still as you stand up. Then progress to using a band to pull the knee in and resist it etc...
Then progress to husband using kitchen implements as a deterrent...

Speedplay frog pedals solved my knee pain.
Probably just overpronation; look at your feet; you'll be able to tell.
Strengthening hips/glutes and stretching will probably help etc. etc.
No point shimming/wedging your cycling shoes if you've got no arch support.
You could always try one of these in your running/gym shoes.
AP - I'm not too bad at stretching though I've got out of the habit recently. Did an hour of yoga this morning. But o know it's not that - problem was there when I was doing a few hours every week.
Foot flaps- that sounds familiar. I did see a physio a few years back who suggested similar but problem returned which make me think there's something underlying.
David - explain overpronation. What am I looking for. What are the things in your pic?
I've self referred to the local podiatry clinic - will see if they respond.
Overpronation will probably look something like the below. Your heel will be a bit cockeyed and your arch has collapsed inward. What do your arches look like? Can you post some pics so we can do an internet bike fit?
Those things I posted above are EVA wedge strips. I gave my mate one for the heel of her running shoe and she said it was well good!
Why stop at bike fit? I'll set up a web cam and operate under instruction.

That'll be a forum first.....
What's the worst that could happen?
A pulled muscle.
My experience with a dodgy knee.
Referral from GP to specialist.
MRI scan to diagnose the issue (kneecap not tracking)
Referral from specialist to physio with knee expertise
3-4 physio sessions (guy knew his knees)
Keep up the exercises he/she gives you to realign the knee (this is important - I've lapsed, and I can feel the knee issue coming back. Have restarted exercises)
Company provided private healthcare, so all relatively quick.
