I damaged my knee snowboarding on a dry slope 2 weeks ago, within hours, there was a fair sized swelling of fluid, about the size of a grapefruit. I went to A+E within a couple of days, X-ray showed no damage to the bones.
I went to a sports physio who had a look at it and applied some treatment, recommended I go back in a week.
After a few days, the pain wasn't getting less and the mobility was getting worse, so last Monday, went to see the physio again, and he diagnosed a "partial rupture of the medial quadriceps mechanism on its attachment into the base of the patella". I went back to A+E, they seemed to confirm the physio's diagnosis, put my leg in a partial plaster from foot to thigh.
My question is how long should the swelling take to go down? It is still quite painful, at times very painful. Anyone with experiences of this sort of injury? How long is it likely to take to recover?
I'm sixteen weeks into a broken tina and fib.
Don't bother googling about your injury as it only raises more questions. Do as the medics say, expect conflicting advice for the medical profession and take some patience pills.
Recovery depends on your age, extent of the injury, your life style as smoking and consuming alcohol will hinder recovery, fitness, how amenable you are to the vets advice etc
Best wishes on your recovery
Go to www.kneeguru for info, most helpful when I did my cruciate. Good for finding local specialists to.
Not exactly what you have but I tore my patellar tendon in January 2011. I was in cricket pad splint for 12 weeks and didn't ride a bike for 7 months. Hope yours is less severe but it doesn't sound like it. All the best.
Many thanks for the replies, I've got an appointment at the Fracture Clinic on Monday, so should have a better idea of the proposed treatment then. Kneeguru site is vety useful!
