Road or mountain?

Lots of stuff from Ripley out towards Pateley Bridge or around to Brimham Rocks. If you’re on the caravan site you can use back roads to get most of the way to Ripley. Try to avoid Ripley Road for anything other than a short stretch, it’s lethal.

Alternatively go back towards Knaresborough and pick up the Beryl Burton route and follow it via the old railway line and viaduct. I don’t think it’s possible to get across to it directly from Scotton.

Drive up to Lofthouse and do the Scarhouse Res loop? Stainburn + Norwood? If you ring Stif Cycles I'm sure they'll give some suggestions.

It is, via Nidd Gorge, but it's all footpaths. Although that hasn't stopped me in the past 🤣

Pushing the bike, obvs.

There are plenty of bridleways around k'boro and Harrogate although the terrain is rather flat. But it's only a short drive up into t'Dales for something more hilly.

Yeah back when I lived at Scotton, sneaky evening rides in the gorge may have been had. Foot bridge gets you across to the BBC, and out to Ripley.
Other local loops to be had on a network of tracks around brearton, south stainley, markington, Burton Leonard area.

Thanks all.
Looking to head to Pately Bridge and do the scarhouse classic loop.
Would a hardtail or full suss most suitable?

Good choice, its where I would be heading.

Really up to you, but I would prob say full sus. Its not mega techy, but full sus will be more comfortable and allow you to carry more speed on the tops. Fair bit of climbing though, depends if your full sus is ok climbing. If its wet up there the grit doesnt half wear away at kit!

Perfect bike for it is short-travel full suss, it's not tech, but it's bumpy. Hardtail would be fine though. A lot of the rockier stuff has been sanitised, especially between Middlesmoor and Scar House, so it's an XC blast now.

If you're looking for more tech, I think there are some DHish tracks on the other side of Pateley Bridge at Guisecliff. Strava/Trailforks will help you locate.

Last time I did Scarhouse with a couple of pals there was a full suss, hard tail and gravel bike! Either will be fine.
