Thought the HDD was knackered so bought a nice shiny 1TB options and that isn't recognised either.
Read online that it might be the SATA connector on the motherboard so are my options USB only?
Is it easy to USB a 3.5"HDD? Cable or cradle thingy?
Any recommendations or dusty options under the STW desk?
Thanks
Chris
Do you need to format the drive first, maybe?
Does the Humax actually support external storage in the manner you suggest?
Thanks Cougar. Yes, the box supports external HDD. I've found a few help videos and the box 'should' recognise a new drive and format it appropriately.
If not, then could I format it through my laptop? Might that work?
Thanks
Assuming it uses a standard format and not something proprietary and weird, yes.
If it "should" recognise it though, that would perhaps reinforce the notion that the connector / controller is sodded.
How old is the box? Have you contacted Humax to get a warranty replacement / quote for repair ?
Humax = Douchbags
Box just over a year old and despite taking out the additional 2nd year warranty they won't honour it as it was refurbished....despite them knowing that when they sent me the 2nd year agreement!
Oh well

Tell them to honour the warranty that you paid for, repay it or...

Thanks Cranberry. It was unfortunately/fortunately a free second year so no loss of money here.

I'd be looking closely at the extended warranty too. Unless it explicitly excludes refurb units, they should be honouring it.
Failing that, under the Consumer Rights Act goods have to be of "satisfactory quality." This means they have to last as long as a reasonable person would expect them to last. If they've offered a two year warranty on it, any reasonable person would expect it to last two years I'd have thought.
Thanks Cougar, I think I might look a little closer and push them on it.
Cheers
