Hi all,
We're going to be flogging our house so need to make the kitchen look presentable. The oak worktop hasn't been oiled in a number of years so is looking a bit sorry for itself. What is the best way to bring it back? Some of it has gone a bit grey - would oiling it make it look normal again?
I'm assuming I'd need to sand the whole thing with a 120/240 grit sander to remove all traces of the current finish before oiling?
Anyone want to put me on the straight and narrow?
I machine sanded and oiled a really shitty-looking butchers block pine worktop and it came up a treat. This thing was covered in water marks and mould around the sink.
Lasted a year before it rotted away some more and the whole kitchen got replaced.
The sand paper got all gummed up with oil so it took a fair few sheets.
Did you use a orbital sander of a belt sander? Wondering if the belt sander may be too aggressive.
A neighbour uses a belt sander with a fine grit, theirs requires frequent attention due to hot sauce pan mishaps.
you could get some wood effect laminate to make things look a bit newer, will be more costly though.
