putting together a kitchen on diykitchens planner and wondering what unit to put under a gas hob. The oven will be built in so under the hob is to be a 'normal' cupboard except for the top bit which will have hob gubbins in it.

a 'hob unit' doesn't seem to be an option. Is it basically a sink unit? thinking one with false drawer fronts.

My under hob unit is just a normal drawer unit, the top drawer is still useable. I think it has an extra “divider” above the drawer to separate it from the underneath of the hob.

As Phil says, a normal drawer unit with a divider. Mine has 3 drawers under the hob, all usable.

Thanks! Divider = piece of wood under the work top that reduces the height /depth of the drawer?

It does also depend on your job and worktop choice. Hobs are normally optimised for 40mm thick worktops, some induction need 50mm, so if you choose a thin top you might run into clearance issues and need to loose the top drawer.

Don’t select sink unit as it has a lowered back for the normal sink plumbing. Either a normal cupboard or a normal drawer pack will suffice but bare in mind my comments above and that some alteration may be required.

Most hobs are quite shallow. We realised (5 years into living in this house) that what we assumed was a blanking plate inside the drawer to give clearance for the hob was actually a slim extra drawer.
