Would be great if this was the start of a better future for north Koreans but I have my doubts.

You've got to admire a guy who keeps the same pair of sunglasses for the last quarter century without sitting on them, or leaving them in a cafe.

Yup. They were informed he died of a heart attack, brought on by hard work.

So now there will be a outburst of mourning for an unelected, unaccountable head of state...

It could never happen in the UK could it?

Let's hope his successor is a good Un.

Not if people actually go out and vote. Just 28.8% of people tuned out in the Feltham by-election.

The South Koreans are bricking themselves that Un will have to consolidate his postion by acting agressively vis a vis the South...

Here's hoping for another Arab spring, but with north Koreans rather than Arabs.

We could have a British spring, but even as I detest old shiny face he hardly compares to a proper dictator, and besides someone voted for him...?

Does anyone else think it ironic that his third born son is called Kim Jong Un, and not his first born son?

That'll be a massive blow for the North Korean platform shoe industry.

People in the middle east are dying to have the chance to vote for somebody like CMD.

On a side note, here are some great photos by an American soldier in Korea in the 1940's
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dok1/sets/72057594053303502/ anyone who has visited South Korea will be shocked what can happen in 50 years!

Whilst the idea of a united Korea is a nice one the South Koreans dislike their neighbours more than most! although I think Kim Jong Un did have a facebook account up to a few months ago, so he is at least a bit more modern than his father!

lol! Does Kim Jong Un have a son it might have been him, anyway it was swiftly removed. As you can imagine he was into American culture!

Apparently his illness was brought on by the stress of the job.

He obviously chose the wrong Korea.

Be nice to think so but it's hard to see where the spark or momentum would come from- they've got to think there's something better before they start pushing for it.

By the way ... what's all this shite about Arab spring in N Korea? They are N Koreans not some Arabs ... N Koreans love to eat pork so unless they too eat pork there is nothing similar between them.

Let them be or why not invite all of them to your house? You can feed them if you want.

Dear Leader is doing you a favour by keeping the population down so please bow down and cry to show respect, you maggot!

North Koreans would probably kill just for an opportunity to eat stale pork scratchings. People in the countryside are forced to eat grass, because most of the available crops are sold to get money to support nuclear weapon development and a 1000,000 strong army.

But pork scratchings taste gooooooddddd ...

Have you ever tasted good pork scratchings? I have and they are nothing like those badly made rock hard teeth breaking ones. Good pork scratchings are crunchy yet light.

People in the countryside are forced to eat grass, because most of the available crops are sold to get money to support nuclear weapon development and a 1000,000 strong army.

Are you saying they breed farmers to produce pork scratchings? Who buy up all those pork scratchings then? So pork scratchings is funding the 1 million strong army?

See that's the power of pork scratchings ...

"Ratcheting up the personality cult it builds around the Kim family, North Korea claimed that Kim Jong Il's death generated a series of spectacular natural phenomena, creating a mysterious glow atop a revered mountain, cracking a sheet of ice on a lake with a loud roar and inspiring a crane to circle a statue of the nation's founder before perching in a tree and drooping its head in sorrow."
