Can I use Ferrous Sulphate on my lawn this time of year or should I wait for Spring?
I'm not expecting 100pc effectiveness but I'm wondering if it might reduce Moss a bit and make treatment in spring easier?
Anything else I can try this time of year?
Hollow core tining.
Fill the holes with sharp sand to improve drainage and reduce compaction.
No chemicals required but it’s a back breaking shift doing it by hand.
scarifying rake, if your lawn's not too big ?
What's wrong with moss? Do we need more concrete grass lawn?

Can you do that in winter? If so that will work fine there's a manageable patch.
What’s wrong with moss?
I don't have an answer to that. I just know I must destroy it. All of it.
You can treat moss in winter as long as no risk of frost so depends what your forecast looks like. Too late to scarify though
Update: I went down the Ferrous Sulphate route. It killed all the moss and blackened moss made me realise there was a lot more than I'd noticed. My plan was to get a head start for spring, in fact two months on it's wiped the lot out and I've arrived at spring with a moss free lawn.
Result, thanks STW. 🙂
I’ve got approx 2800m2 of lawn moss to treat. Just on way to spend £100 on moss killer 😣
(Then scarify it, then tidy up the mountain of mess that’ll cause, then aerate it then re-seed the whole bloomin lot)

No. You don’t. Too late now, I know, but I’m not doing anything to discourage moss from my lawn, such as it is. In fact, having watched a couple of programmes about Japanese gardens, where they cull any grass that starts to grow, I’m even more determined to encourage moss, it looks lovely.
I have a similar dilemma - woodland garden with lots of shade and damp, this winter seems like about half of the lawn has turned into moss but it actually looks quite nice! Think I might just give in to it...

A bit like saying "why bother growing roses, begonias are easier and the same colour", "why bother planting deciduous trees, pine are mostly the same", etc.
Because.......gardening.
Gardening of course. Then you end up with invasive species like spanish bluebells, Japanese knotweed,...moss will keep your lawn green all year and humid for those new hot summers and hosepipe bans
