Still got this 12"

and this 7"

Probably my favourite 2 tracks of theirs. (And sleeves!)

I still have their first album. Bit tattered around the edges but still sounds great on my cheapo turntable.

They played the Fleece in Bristol recently, gutted I couldn't get a ticket. But I did see them at the Brunel Rooms in 1984. They are simply the best live.

The only time I've been a bit wary at a gig was Killing Joke at The Apollo.

The mushrooms didn't help. 🙂

Their album still is still on my wall. I rotate them depending on what I feel like listening to.

Oh dear, takes me back to being 16.

Turning up to the venue half pished and strolling in no problem and meeting my mates cowering in the corner looking decided all underage.

As I'd not been hassled it was my job to get the beers in. It was busy, I figured I'd lose a good inch off each pint so decided best not waste so drank the inch. Off each. Everytime I was sent to the bar... Oh man, the first time you get completely rat arsed...

My main memories of the gig were 1) they did SO36 (which was my favourite track of theirs) don't know what else they did as I was pished; 2) I stumbled into KJ's dressing room looking for somebody completely different. I don't think they were best pleased... 😳 ; 3) snogging somebody's mate then them battering me while I was being sick (both later came out as lesbians, I always wondered if I was 'responsible'... ).

Agree with DezB about the singles though. Turn to Red was ace, I had a mate who was sooo disappointed when I played it him at the proper speed...

Saw them in 94 at The Kentish Town Forum, probably my favourite gig. The set list was pretty special:
Communion/The Fall of Because/Wardance/Whiteout/Requiem/Change/Labyrinth/Kings & Queens/Millennium/Exorcism/Love Like Blood/Complications/Eighties/The Wait/Psyche/Mathematics Of Chaos

A band who are far better live than on record IMO. The one with Dave Grohl on drums (Killing Joke?) is probably my favourite, although Pandemonium has some of my favourite tunes.

I used to love Killing Joke's darksome belchup of hock-spit bile. One of the most, if not THE most thunderingly noisy and intense gigs I ever saw was KJ at the Digbeth Institute touring the 'Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions' LP. As well as qualifying for my personal 'Pseuds Album Title of the Year', it's also one of the records I've played more than any other record, mainly for the sheer energy and THAT guitar sound. The gig was 3 hours long, and that PiL drummer (Martin Atkins?) was pushing the whole thing along for the duration barely stopping to breathe. Geordie Walker's Gibson ES sounds like a thousand dogs barking through a time-tunnel. I love it, right down to that ear-trembling intro where he tightens the guitar string till it you hear it go 'THWANG', and then a WALL of NOIZE. Hoo!

Funny this thread should pop up, as I am, at this very moment, wearing a KJ tee shirt from the 1995 Pandemonium tour at Bristol Bierkeller, IIRC, and incredibly hot. I was right down the front, in the 'pit' wearing a leather bike jacket, which ended up soaked through, and my mate afterwards pointed out that I was an unhealthy shade of purple! 😯

Haven't worn it in ages, thought it deserved an outing. 😀
