Anyone else done their 3.5 hours stint in the cinema for the new Scorcese?
Must say, I was slightly underwhelmed, it didn't drag, despite the length, but it wasn't very thrilling.
Great story, great acting, amazing cinematography, but it just drifted along telling it's story quite well. Where's the excitement, the tension, the violence... I dunno. My abiding memory is of Dicaprio's Sensational Mouth Acting.
Yeah, true. At least we had the bizarre anti-aging technology for the thrills in that one 🙂

Hahah, not just me then, He is going for the Marlon Brando isn't he? Film didn't blow me away, and was about 20 mins too long I thought. Not his best. More generally if they put a break in these sorts of films then we wouldn't all be getting up at random moments, disturbing everyone around us when we need to go to the loo.
Very powerful film.
For me, the time flew by and I thought all the main characters were superb.
Haven't seen the film but it's an interesting true story. Cautionary Tales podcast about it last week.
it’s an interesting true story
Most definitely. And exactly the sort of story I'd expect to get very emotional about. "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" (the book) made me cry. This film didn't though.

I'm out.
Vue do showings with an interval for those with attention problems 😉

I haven't see KotFM, but I often think that this is Martin Scorscese's thing? Less about the plot, more about a chance to spend some time in someone else's life

I was going to go and watch it this week. Not any more

Nowt to do with attention span. I'm a bloke of a certain age. More bladder issues and the ability to stay awake while seated for 3 hours 😂
Nobody wants to be hot bunking the OAPs afternoon matinee for this one!
“Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” (the book) made me cry.
I started that and gave up. There's only so many times that you can read (and I'm paraphrasing) "and then the whites reneged on the agreement and the [insert Native American tribe here] got royally screwed".
More bladder issues and the ability to stay awake
I watched from the back row on the end seat, so if I did need to get up and go for a wee I'd not disturb anyone, there was a (generously proportioned) couple in front of me, and the chap went out for more food about half way through!

'Little Big Man' might. And laugh. Great revisionist western, one of the first, that still stands out today. Free on Prime ATM.
Is it as dull as “The Revenant”?
The Revenant had ACTION! That beginning battle in the trees was one of the best things I've seen on a cinema screen! 😆
It looks beautiful, but it’s not really my kind of film, really. I was reading about the background to the film, and the book; the book is predominantly about the FBI investigating the killings, Scorscese changed the emphasis to the White men responsible and secondly the victims and the Tribe, who were extraordinary wealthy by the standards of the time, giving greedy White men the only reason they needed.
Same old…

Wait, so you think that race had nothing to do with it? Once the natives became rich then everything should have been fine?
No, I think he means that the film's main characters are the white people. Hale and Burkhart (De Niro and DiCaprio) rather than the indigenous woman Mollie, played by Lily Goldstone which is, frankly, entirely in line with Scorsese's previous films. He's interested in power and what that does to people, and in the US at least, power partly comes from being white.
Not seen the film yet but the book its based on is excellent and really worth reading. It places Mollie as the central character and has some interesting present day follow up.
Its quite frankly mad to think it actually happened as it did.
The way the indians were treated was very poor, in many cases not being deemed intelligent enough to look after their own money and legally forced to be dependent on white men who proceeded to fleece them!
