Anyone on here live in, or know, Killearn at all? Looking at a potential move up from Surrey in the future and this is currently top of our list. OH is originally from Glasgow but south/east suburbs, I've only ever lived around Guildford area.
No kids so school proximity not an issue. Her job will transfer up to Falkirk but is mostly wfh now anyway, so up to 45min commute a couple of days a week isn't an issue. It looks like a really nice quiet place, so wondering if anyone had any direct experience?
We live the other side of the Campsies, but I have a couple of friends who live in Killearn, and they seem to like it, and seem pretty positive about the general vibe, people who live there etc.
I grew up in that area 35 years ago. Killearn was the posh bit at that point. ( guess it still is)
Just realised I don't really have much more to say! as all my experiences as a kid are irrelevant.
My experiences of mtb are also irrelevant as they have open access now, which we didn't then
WHW passes by the bottom of your garden pretty much.
Yep, lovely area...
Live reasonably close by and know the area well. Killearn's a nice village, pretty quiet and lots of decent riding within a pretty small radius. Handy for Glasgow and all the facilities there (nearest train station is Milngavie). Good bike shop too!
My parents lived there for 20+ years and I did for a couple
its a decent enough village but public transport is very poor and you will soon get sick of driving into milngavie / glasgow. used to be two pubs and a couple of shops but facilities are limited so nearest supermarket is going to be Milngavie.  45 mins to Falkirk in rush hour might be pushing it as well. the reason my parents moved to Milngavie was they got tired of driving into glasgow all the time
Campsies are nice enough but nothing special - although coming from guilford they may seem like heaven. Lots of good walking and cycling in the area tho
I always found it just a bit "twee"
Killearn was the posh bit at that point.
Still is according to one of my staff who lived there until a couple of years ago.
Nice enough place. You drive everywhere.
Quick to get out west and north, less so getting across to A9 east and north.
She was on one on school parent council who didn't own a Range Rover product, or wear Dubarry boots, skinny jeans and tweed jacket.....Actually, as a Surrey resident, you should be used to that 😉
Hi, I currently live there, it's a lovely place, we've been here 3 years and have loved it, we're very sad to leave, our house goes on the market probably friday..... PM me 🙂
dead posh.
you'll be buying a santa cruz very soon after moving in. it's inevitable..
Granny lived just outside in Gartness for years which is lovely though can get busy with WHWers.
As above though the campsies aren't mega exciting though pleasant enough. There's really good gravel riding/bikepacking territory if you head out towards Loch Ard/Aberfoyle/QEFP etc
I know several folk who've moved there within the last couple of years, all in the ultra running or biking community and who love it. Yes, public transport isn't great but village shop facilities have (I understand) improved as the village has grown more lately. I've not actually visited there for, oh, about two years.... Well worth checking out on the ground if your budget fits.
As above, you're effectively near one end of the Badger Divide, John Muir way, Rob Roy Way and West Highland Way, with a range of route options to take you out into the hills and far away.

Ditto, but 10 or 15 years earlier.
Nice place to live, if you can afford it. Run up the Campsies from the door, cycle to L Lomond, etc.
All sounding absolutely spot on so far!
If you fancy living in a small posh village in the middle of no where, go for it. If you don't fancy driving 45 minutes for most things avoid. Down to you really, it is a nice spot.
Killearn Falkirk commute will be more like an hour. I lice in Milngavie so know Killearn slightly. Nice spot but if I was buying from scratch I'd maybe look at Dunblane or Bridge of Allan assuming houses were in budget.
Closer to M9/A9 going E or N. Better local facilities. Train station.Closer to Falkirk.
TJ and irc are right about the commute to Falkirk - especially if you need to get through Falkirk traffic, get stuck behind stuff on the stirling-balfron road etc.
We live in Dunipace, about 8 miles west of Falkirk. My wife commuted to Croftamie along the A811 for a couple of years. On a good day, she could make it door to door in around 45 minutes, so I'd add another 15-25 minutes to get into Falkirk from Killearn. Another thing is that the A811 is a horrible commute, especially in winter. According to my better half, the road is arrow straight, but riddled with blind summits. Impatient drivers pulling crazy dangerous overtakes are apparently very common.
I'd echo the thoughts above about Dunblane, Bridge of Allan, maybe Braco or Blackford if you wanted smaller villages. Lovely places, but more central for a commute into Falkirk and of course you'd get to hook up with all the fabulous Stirlingshire mountain bikers.
