My sisters son would like a kids kindle, he lives in NZ. Amazon isn’t really a thing in NZ so my sister doesn’t have a prime account (which makes the kids subscription much cheaper).

Does anyone know if I can buy a kids kindle and have everything attached to my account and pay the £2/month subscription? And will it actually work OK when they take it back to NZ?

I nearly wrote exactly that 30 mins ago. Hesitated to derail the thread. But hell, why not. I have nothing useful to add…

In repent for my post above, I have scratched my head.

will it actually work OK when they take it back to NZ?

Unless we can get anyone that actually knows the answer here, I’d be very sceptical that it would work. Streaming services are very much controlled by territory, contracts and agreements are signed to offer programming in certain territories. The location (determined by IP) of the device determines what’s available to it. If amazon prime isn’t available in NZ, then taking a UK amazon device to NZ won’t cure that.

Of course, a vpn could be used to make the device in NZ appear to be elsewhere. But that’s all a bit faffy for a kids device.

Just googled that prime is available in NZ, and then re read your OP, realised I haven’t answered your question. I don’t know the answer.

Amazon prevent you from streaming over a VPN, what you need is smartDNS but that’s even more faffy for a kindle. I’d suspect that region-specific content will be unavailable and possibly even items that aren’t region locked may throw an error. Over a VPN I get a big, fat ‘odd soff!’ when trying to access anything on Amazon - they’re that Jeremy Hunty.

Just to clarify if it's the kindle reader, not the fire tablets.

Cheers for the thoughts though, I'm sceptical too and VPNs etc aren't really an option. It has to just work.

If it's a kindle reader, then those work fine in NZ. I doubt Amazon will care where the payment is coming from as long as they get it.

Whats the £2 a month for? Kindle Unlimited? Does that actually "stream" or put books on the device. I mean, if you bought a Kindle you could still use the Kindle's email address to load books onto it whether it's in the UK, New Zealand or Outer Mongolia (presuming they have internet access in Outer Mongolia)
I guess your question really is - Will Kindle Unlimited work in NZ? (I don't know)

@phil5556
Hi Phil, yes it is. I'm in NZ and have a kindle reader. I download books direct from Amazon.com frequently.
