I will be up in Birmingham (near the university) next Saturday and need some ideas on how to occupy a toddler and an 8 year old.
A mixture of indoor and out, running around and cafe would be ideal.
Any tips?
Cheers
Thinktank is excellent. Loads of stuff for kids to whack and poke and dribble over. A nice cafe too.
Sea life centre good too, if you like.....sea life and that.
Usual suspects: Sealife centre, ThinkTank & Cadbury World, though I think you may need to pre-book or queue for the tour at Cadbury's
The new library is apparently stunning, & the kids section is brilliant.
Another vote for thinktank/science museum
The outside stuff at thinktank is good for running around.
ThinkTank is great, educational as well if that matters.
Sea Life Centre is good for a few hours as well.
New library is stunning, the kids section is immense.
Closer to the uni, the Birmingham Nature Centre is close by at Cannon Hill Park and is very good, the park itself is perfectly good for running around and has a boating lake if you want to hire a pedalo as well.
Thanks all. Thinktank looks brilliant!
My Grandad used to take my brother and I to the science museum in brum 35 years ago.
I wanted to take my boys there, but it seemed not to exist anymore.
We went to the Thinktank instead, and guess what? All the stuff I remember about the science museum had been moved to Thinktank. Big industrial revolution pumps and engines, a big train and the smell of a particular type of grease, awesome.
So forget all the recycling bullshit (old hat now) and head down stairs.
There is also a robot installed when it opened, as a modern marvel, but which now looks like it could be bought from B and M bargains for a tenner.
The Birmingham Museum in the centre of town is also great, and free.
Then, on the way home, visit a decent curry house. Not a posh one, but one the locals pack, also very child friendly, cheap and awesome.
