LittleGinge has been enjoying us reading the Hilda comic books (graphic novels?) recently and I’ve started to try and see what else might be out there with a similar feel.
So far I’ve only really got as far as thinking Tintin might be an option but I’ve never read one myself so don’t know if they would be suitable (he’s six) or how well they have aged.
Anyone know of any others that are worth taking a look at, or have any recent experience with the Tintin books?
Asterix!
H says Adventure Time.
Manga novels might be an option (massive section in most book shops)
My youngest has been mad on Tin Tin for ages, followed by Asterix. He also recommends Dog Man, plus Captain Underpants (though he says it’s not a true comic, just has bits of comic in it).
Depends on the age of your child, but the Tom Gates books by Liz Pichon and Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are quite graphical and fun to read for young readers (8ish and up).
Yep, my boys are a bit older now, but started reading Tin-Tin, Asterix when they were 6.
Tom Gates, Diary of a Wimpy Kid are great, although not really comics exactly, more illustrated novels.
I'd add some other similar books:
Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton's Treehouse books.
Andy Stanton's Mr Gum (like Spike Milligan for kids).
Ahn Do - WeirDo (good for younger kids).
My lad enjoys the Dav Pilkey books - Cat Kid Comic Cub and Dog Man. Not sure how many there are in each series. He's just turned 6 and devours books at a rate of knots, his reading age is pretty advanced.

head onto ebay and buy a box full of Commando comics, ideally 60s and 70s if you want the real Commando experience. they dont make em' like that any longer!! ; )
Can't recommend Mega Robo Bros strongly enough - really great stuff for kids:

My lad (11) really likes the Adventure Time comics, but they might be a bit 'out there' for younger kids.
The big superhero factories do some aimed at younger kids - stuff like Teen Titans Go, Batman Adventures, Marvel Action Spider-man etc - which he really liked.
Tintin might be a bit much - when I was a kid it took me a while to get into them, as the world was completely unrelatable, so I guess it would be even more so now 30+ years later! My lad doesn't like them at all, but he's hardly given them a go.
Asterix, on the other hand, he loves.
Mine (now 8 and 11) both love the phoenix weekly comic, and especially bunny vs monkey - which is available in catch up books https://thephoenixcomic.co.uk/Shop/Item/BUNMONK12INONE
You might need to read them to your 6 year old but hopefully you'll find them fun - I do.
Edit: Mega Robo Bros is in the phoenix too.
Exactly what @sl2000 says. The Phoenix Comic is great. Both my girls read it as soon as it's delivered through the door each week. I'm also partial to reading Doug Slugman when it's in there and Squid Bits. There's also 3 volumes of collections from them which you can get from book shops. I ordered one of those first before signing up for the weekly comic to check that the kids liked it.
When older the Amulet books are really good as well.
Thanks everyone, that should give us plenty to look into and will keep us going for a good while once we’ve cleared out the Christmas pile of Hilda books.
No love for the loveable white bear with yellow trousers?
Tintin was great for our kids - given to us by a Swiss cousin; in French unfortunately but they all learned enough to get by.
No love for the loveable white bear with yellow trousers?
Bit racist now?
