Toying with taking the kids to the Alps next summer. Not super rad sprogs just normal kids. They loved the blue at coedybrenin. The older one is a bit more competent. She would probably be ok on the blues at bpw.
I've not been for years so what places would be good for some mixed family biking and some other kids stuff walking scrambling adventure stuff? Near a lake swimming spot for the wife would be a winner.
Is it still Les gets/morzine for the variety or have things moved on?
Have van so camping preferred rather than chalets.
Cheers,
Mark
Morzine would still for the bill. See more and more kids there every year. Loads of accessible biking and plenty to do off the bike. It's also easy to get an extra cheeky loop in for yourself without being too far away. Not so good for camping (unless you don't mind a car park) but chalets are so cheap and plentiful we've never camped there
I had my 7yo biking at Puy St Vincent and Les Orres this summer. There are few blues and greens. Shorter runs tan you might find elsewhere too. Plenty of via ferrata and rock climbing in the Durance valley. Massive lake at Embrun, plenty of smaller to choose too.
Scores of campsites to choose from between Briancon and Embrun, plus side valleys.
Morzine valley has got good options for junior, and open water swimming at Lac Montriond is superb - I swim almost every morning there in summer.
Camping is more tricky though. Living out of a van with the hippies in the car parks is no fun, theres a lowly campsite by the old sawmill at Montriond (just past the gendarmerie) but its not great, although the location is OK. A somewhat better campsite at Essert Rommand, but its another few minutes out of Morzine on the bike with a little uphill to get to. Summer chalet's can be had for reasonably good value though.
Lots of accessible and lift assisted walking, via ferrata at Avoriaz and St Jean d'Aulps. Big pool complex at Les Dereches.
Swinging about in the trees just below Dereches at Parc Indiana and also at the Cascade de Nyon. Kids love it.
Cheers guys will check out the options.
Eldest got her first airtime today 🤘 so no doubt be sending the Vink line at chatel in no time...
As a family we much preferred Les Gets.
Fewer roaming groups of all male storm troopers drinking in bars. Much more family atmosphere.
The lake. Is just Fabulous at end of a days ride, or for hanging out on a less active day. So nice.
Some nice walks, but do some research as the grading varied a bit (like the riding).
Morzine = blacks or lift back to town only. Les Gets had nice couple of blues and a red back into the village.
We camped at Le Giffre in Samoens this year, gives free access to the town's outdoor pool which is a short walk from the site. We rode Les Carroz initially & then some local blues & reds.
Morzine = blacks or lift back to town only.
Not true at all. Plenty of easier runs back from both sides of the valley and best of all it's downhill from pretty much anywhere so you can ride later or hang out at the lake and still get home.
Bourg st maurice has good camping and access to some decent blues up in Les arcs, a swimming lake a nice ride down the valley, walking and rafting all close by. It's easy to get up to Tignes for the trails too.
The Huttopia site is good for camping with kids activities every day and swimming pools. We've been there with kids for the last couple of years and they really enjoy it.
Bourg sounds good. Been to a few huttopia sites before too. cheers!
A good campsite at Chatel too. Has a pool but the tourist card gets you into the new larger one in the village.
Chatel is a lot more sedate than Morzine etc. We enjoyed a family holiday there a few years back
Tignes/Val D'Isere is great for kids.
Kid friendly riding as well as lots of Adult friendly riding.
Free chair lifts
A million other activities you can do for nowt if you stay in Tignes.
Second Tignes/Val d'isere, good basic campsite at Val. no swimming lake nearby though.
Lift pass no longer free - it is 10e per day or 40e for 6 days but you do get included access to the pool and lots of other free activites.
There is a campsite in Les Gets which has pool and hot tub - friends stayed there last year and raved on about it. Plus swimming at Lac Montriond
Oetzal Valley in Austria. Loads of non-biking things to do with the kids too.
