Morning all,
I'm after recommendations for trails to take my 6yr old to. He rides well around parks and simple dirt trails and would like to take him on a fun little blue route or similar. Ideally somewhere that we will not constantly be in the way of everyone else.
He's riding a little Ridgeback MX16 at the moment, about to move up to 20" wheels.
If I remember right I think Sherewood pines is pretty simple and might be a good start.
We're based in Birmingham
Cheers
Sherwood has greens and a blue I think. The red there is pretty easy for kids as well, my 9 year old rides it fine, but it'd probably be too long for yours at the moment, especially on small wheels.
Hicks lodge near Ashby de-le-zouch is meant to be good for littleuns. Are there any greens or blues at cannock chase?
The green at Swinley is good for little ones, but is fairly short. Could be combined with a visit to the playground and possibly the Coral reef swimming pool across the road if you want to make a day of it.
The Blue & Green at Cannock are basically forest road rides with signposts rather than purpose built trails and the blue would be quite long if you're only small and running little wheels. To be honest I'd avoid them for the sort of thing you're looking for. There are sections of the FTD that would probably be suitable, or ,if your little 'un can face the big climb at the start, the blue at Llandegla can be fun.
Degla blue with a tow rope for the first hill
Haldon has a good easy route(exeter)
Minor taur at coed y is great.
Degla green is rubbish
haldon and lanhydrock are our main riding spots for family riding. bit far south for you though.
i can highly recommend one of these...
Thanks chaps, the towwhee is a great shout too.
BPW blues are all rollable & gravity assisted. I've seen some little kids there.
Hicks Lodge blue is great for little kids, its only a few miles long has interesting fun bits, lots of single track, berms and rollers, nothing technical and only a couple of short hills which you can help push them up if needed and a cafe a play ground at the end. My 6 (nearly 7) year old has been doing it fora couple of years and the first time was on a 16inch bike.
Sherwood red is all rideable by a determined 6 year old but its getting on for 9-10 miles so the last few sections might be a bit whingey! Do Hicks Lodge first
Haldon has a good easy route(exeter)
IMHO most of Haldon is quite easy, my 7 year old daughter has done the green and both blues, whilst my 8 year old son has done the red.
Where would one get a Tow Whee from in the UK?
Sandwell Valley?
Clent could work for a few starter rides, stick to the multi use paths for a ride or two and then attempt some of the off path parts. It is quite steep in places.
Hicks Lodge blue is perfect at that age - some sections being repaired recently according to their Facebook page, not sure how they have got on, diversions were in place.
The Strava pic looks like a dinosaur as well, what's not to love?
