So, one of my kids has suspected threadworms and we have all had the single dose tablet. Now the doc said that's it, nothing else to do, but Googling suggests everything from better hygiene through to nuking the entire contents of our house and bleaching ourselves twice daily.

So - anyone else been through this and what level of paranoia did you go to? From my recollection as a kid myself, I just had a tablet and that was that.

Ta

There is no need to get too anal ( 😆 ) about hygene.
Just make sure everyone washes their hands after going for a poo.

Wash all underwear and bed sheets. Won't do any harm to iron underwear (kill any eggs)
Get your kids to wear clean pants under their pjs. Stop wandering hands etc.

NHS Choices says:

"You can treat threadworms yourself with medication available at pharmacies. However, treatment does not kill the eggs hatched by threadworms. Good hygiene is the only way to prevent the eggs from spreading and causing further infection."

.

Son caught em off our dog.

Erm...

"Humans are thought to be the only host for threadworms. Animals can't catch or pass on threadworms, unless the eggs are transported on the animal’s fur after contact from an infected person."

Son caught them off you after you patted the dog with your filthy bum-scratching hands!

Yeah that was kinda what I was thinking - washing their hands in the morning and after every toilet visit was about what I thought was right.

Interesting! You mean we put the dog down for nothing! 😥

Yep. Should have kept the dog and put you down. 😀

(or maybe just washed your hands).
