taking daughter-in-law to the above hospital this morning, may have to wait 2 or 3 hours.
anywhere near to park up and have a coffee maybe? or a few shops to wander around? just after somewhere to relieve the boredom. im sure thered be a mcdonalds somewhere near for a coffee and pot of porridge but wondered if there was anything a bit less soulless. probably wont get another chance to look at this til i get there, so thanks in advance.
There’s more than one Sheffield teaching hospital. If it’s the hallamshire, childrens, Jessops or Weston park there’s lots of places of interest within a short stroll. Weston park museum opposite the childrens and a Starbucks nearby, or a walk up the hill to Broomhill shops pubs cafes. Record collector is there for vinyl browsing. Also not too far to walk into town via the uni, west street and division street. These hospitals are all close to each other and the uni campus.
If it’s the northern general where I have an appointment at 11am there is just a load of Asian supermarkets and related shops. Take a book.
assuming its not Northern General (therefore Hallamshire or the others mentioned above)
Broomhill is good for a bit, but if you've got more timey, take a walk through the Botanical Gardens down to Sharrow Vale road, Eccesall road area. Plenty of little shops and coffee places
Botanical Gardens down to Ecclesall Road for a coffee then back. Should be really pleasant
http://steamyard.co.uk/ for coffee, nice walk down from the Hallamshire. Hope your daughter's alright.
Dyson Place/Yard in Sharrow is a nice spot for a coffee too if you make it that far. Walk through botanical gardens to get there would be a nice walk.
Is the paternoster lift still in the Arts Tower too? I could spend an hour messing about on that I reckon!
Botanical Gardens then San Marco on the Eccy Road for a snack and (very good) coffee, walk around Sharrow Vale shops.
NB you can have a grimly reflective walk to the Botanical Gardens via Melbourne Avenue (where the Yorkshire ripper was caught). Nice street though.
thanks all, here now. postcode is S10 2JF and ive seen a sign for botanical gardens so may have a wander there. unfortunately im now sat in a nearby wetherspoons (francis newton?) as the roads were a bit chocker and i thought itd have a free carpark if i dipped off the busy road. should have known better 😀
awaiting a breakfast now (to get a refund on the carpark) and then i'll have a wander.
thanks a lot
EDIT: and yes of coures, the table is sticky 😀
Go and see the Bear Pit in the Botanical Gardens. Was always fascinated by it as a child (I was brought up about a mile away).

A bit further on from the Botanical Gardens is Endcliffe Park, also nice for a bit of a wander round, and you can loop back up through the leafy suburbs of Broomhill then back down through Broomhill high street to the hospital.

Yeah it's still there. I went up in it recently - it's terrifying. I'm surprised no-one's lost a limb and it's still permitted. It's a cool piece of engineering history, though.
Should’ve brought your bike. Out through the parks to some decent trails. A couple of loops of Lady cannings and back would fill the time nicely.
Francis newton takes me back. Used to go there before it was a spoons for coffee after parent and baby swimming at king Ted’s pool opposite. Kids used to go for underage drinking in 6th form. You may. get a ticket if you over stay in the car park there.
+1 for the bear pit idea. It’s a nice day for wandering round the botanical gardens
I'd go down through the botanical gardens to Eccy Road. Turn right and stroll up to Endcliffe park. Do a lap and them come back via Sharrow Vale road.

Welcome to Sheffield. Bumper to bumper traffic and no free parking within miles of town.

Haha found that by accident just having a stroll through. What's the story there then?
Had wander down to the shops down the bottom but parking runs out in 10 mins so back at the car now. She's said she doesn't know how long she'll be still so.....think I'll have to stick another couple of hours on and I'll mebbes venture over to endcliffe park.
Thanks
I went up in it recently – it’s terrifying.
Did you go all the way over at the top? 🙂
The Botanical Gardens are the first place I nearly snogged* my ex #truestory
*actual snogging, bonking, marriage and divorce came later
Nice bit of history on the bear pit here.

My old man used to enjoy regaling the story of the child getting mauled to death when we were young.
thats great @tuboflard, thanks for that.
and thanks to you all, an experience i was dreading (3 hrs of driving, hospitals, parking, busy cities) turned into a pleasant 2 or 3 hours.
of course, the cheap wetherspoons breakfast was crap, microwaved porridge and solid scrambled egg, but it cancelled out my parking. didnt have to double up in the end as my D-I-L messaged just after my last post saying that she was nearly done, so i hovered about in the 20 mins free parking areas in the side streets. so i didnt manage to get to endcliffe park, but ill keep that in my back pocket if we have to do the journey again (i dont think we will, see below). the parking also seemed cheaper (and a fair few spaces available) actually on melbourne avenue itself.
Hope your daughter’s alright.
daughter-in-law got a clean bill of health on her eyes, they were thinking that there may be something wrong with her brain, but tests on her eyes showed not so. good news and thanks for asking.
twas a nice day for a wander, i enjoyed it for a couple of hours.....
